Working with Groups
Delegates will explore the role of the group facilitator, and be able to use facilitation skills to engage constructively with group participants from a variety of groups running in different settings. The course will enable delegates to base their work on the principles of equal opportunities. The course will develop delegates' understanding of and ability to use active listening and communication skills within a group context.
By the end of course, participants will:
- Understand the role of the facilitator
- Understand some models of groupwork theory
- Understand and manage group dynamics
- Be able to identify some of the key knowledge and skills necessary for successful facilitation
- Be able to share, explore and practice facilitation techniques
- Be able to share some of the challenges involved in facilitation and consider ways of overcoming these
About the Trainer
Deryl Dix started her career working as a drama specialist in Cardiff Council's creative arts team. She later took up a public affairs role within the heart health demonstration project 'Heartbeat Wales', before becoming the Wales Director of the Family Planning Association (FPA). She held this position for ten years and followed it with Director level posts with the RNID (Royal National Institute for Deaf people) and CSV (Community Service Volunteers).
Whilst working for the FPA, Deryl gained a post-graduate diploma in counselling from the University of Wales. Further to this, she has both the introductory and intermediate level certificates in Family Therapy, a certificate in 'Group relationships and inter-personal skills', BPS (British Psychological Society) licensing certificates at level A and level B in psychometric testing and is an INLPTA certified practitioner in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP).
In 2000 Deryl established her own training and consultancy business. She now works with clients in a wide variety of roles across the private, public and voluntary sectors, focussing on the development of inter-personal skills including: Management and Leadership development, Team development, Sexuality & relationships, Diversity, Child protection, Communication skills, Coaching and Group facilitation.

Gweithio gyda Grwpiau
Bydd y cynrychiolwyr yn archwilio rôl hwylusydd grwp, ac yn gallu defnyddio sgiliau hwyluso i greu cysylltiad adeiladol a chyfranogwyr o amrywiaeth o grwpiau a gynhelir mewn gwahanol leoliadau. Bydd y cwrs yn galluogi'r cynrychiolwyr i seilio eu gwaith ar egwyddorion cyfle cyfartal. Bydd y cwrs yn datblygu dealltwriaeth cynrychiolwyr o sgiliau gwrando gweithredol a chyfathrebu a'u gallu i'w defnyddio yng nghyd-destun grwp.
Erbyn diwedd y cwrs, bydd y cyfranogwyr yn:
- Deall rol yr hwylusydd
- Deall rhai modelau o theori gwaith grwpiau
- Deall a rheoli deinameg grwpiau
- Gallu nodi peth o'r wybodaeth allweddol a rhai o'r sgiliau angenrheidiol ar gyfer hwyluso llwyddiannus
- Gallu rhannu, archwilio ac ymarfer technegau hwyluso
- Gallu rhannu rhai o'r sialensiau sy'n ymwneud â hwyluso ac ystyried ffyrdd o'u goresgyn
Ynghylch yr Hyfforddwr
Cychwynnodd Deryl Dix ei gyrfa yn gweithio fel arbenigwr drama yn nhîm celfyddydau creadigol Cyngor Caerdydd. Yn ddiweddarach ymgymerodd a rol materion cyhoeddus ym mhrosiect arddangos iechyd y galon 'Curiad Calon Cymru', cyn dod yn Gyfarwyddwr Cymru i'r Gymdeithas Cynllunio Teulu (FPA). Cyflawnodd y swydd hon am 10 mlynedd, ac yna bu mewn swyddi ar lefel Cyfarwyddwr gyda'r RNID (Y Sefydliad Brenhinol Cenedlaethol i Bobl Fyddar), a CSV (Gwirfoddolwyr Gwasanaeth Cymunedol).
Pan oedd yn gweithio i'r FPA, cyflawnodd Deryl ddiploma ol-raddedig mewn cwnsela o Brifysgol Cymru. Ar ben hynny, mae ganddi dystysgrifau cychwynnol a lefel ganolradd mewn Therapi Teulu, tystysgrif mewn 'Perthnasoedd Grwp a sgiliau rhyngbersonol', tystysgrifau trwyddedu'r BPS (Cymdeithas Seicolegol Prydain) ar lefel A a lefel B mewn profion seicometrig, ac mae hi'n ymarferydd ardystiedig INLPTA mewn Rhaglenni Niwro-Ieithyddol.
Yn 2000 sefydlodd Deryl ei busnes hyfforddi ac ymgynghori ei hun. Mae hi bellach yn gweithio gyda chleientiaid mewn amrywiaeth eang o rolau ar draws y sectorau preifat, cyhoeddus a gwirfoddol, yn canolbwyntio ar ddatblygiad sgiliau rhyngbersonol, yn cynnwys: Datblygu Rheolaeth ac Arweinyddiaeth, Datblygu Tîm, Rhywioldeb a Pherthnasoedd, Amrywiaeth, Amddiffyn Plant, Sgiliau Cyfathrebu, Hyfforddiant Tywys a Hwyluso Grwpiau.
