PAVO is pleased to announce that two days of pre-booked appointments have been organised in collaboration with BBC Children in Need. The opportunity to access this very popular funding programme is open to voluntary and community groups that work with disadvantaged children and young people. Groups serving POWYS will be able to apply for a 30 minute appointment with James Bird, a BBC Children in Need grants officer, to discuss the eligibility and potential of a project proposal.
Surgeries will be held on Friday 21st September in Ystradgynlais from 10am – 1pm and Brecon from 3pm – 7pm, and on Monday 24th September in Llandrindod Wells from 10am - 1pm and Newtown 3pm – 7pm. There will be a maximum of twelve appointments available each day.

To apply for an appointment please forward an outline of your project proposal (no more than one side of A4), preferably by e-mail, to diana.berriman@pavo.org.uk with your preferred location and second choice. Applications must be received by Friday 24th August. Places are limited so please apply ASAP.

BBC Children in Need supports stable, well-managed, and effective organisations that work with disadvantaged children and young people aged 18 years and under living in the UK (groups that work with people of all ages may also apply as long as the project is focused on work with those aged 18 and under). You should be able to clearly demonstrate the link between the disadvantage and how your project will change the lives of the children involved for the better. Where possible it should take into account their views and involve them in decisions that affect them.

BBC Children in Need funds two types of grants The Small Grants Programme is for grants up to and including £10,000 to support projects for up to three years.  The charity’s Main Grants Programme is for grants over £10,000 per year to support projects for up to three years. Like many funders BBC Children in Need has a list of work that it will not fund as follows:

Dewis and Info Engine sharing is live

Dolen rhannu gwybodaeth nawr yn FYW!

Rydym wrth ein bodd i gyhoeddi bod datblygiadau technegol sy’n caniatáu rhannu gwybodaeth ynglŷn â sefydliadau a gwasanaethau trydydd sector perthnasol rhwng Infoengine a Dewis Cymru yn awr yn weithredol.
Cyfeiriadur ar-lein o wasanaethau'r trydydd sector yng Nghymru yw Infoengine. Fe'i darperir a chefnogir gan Gefnogi Trydydd Sector Cymru, partneriaeth o Gynghorau Gwirfoddol Sirol a Chyngor Gweithredu Gwirfoddol Cymru. Mae ganddo dros 4,000 o wasanaethau a gynigir gan sefydliadau gwirfoddol a grwpiau cymunedol. Mae'r nifer hwn yn cynyddu bob dydd.
Gwefan yw Dewis Cymru sy’n darparu gwybodaeth ynglŷn â llesiant yng Nghymru. Darparir y wefan gan Data Cymru ar ran y 22 awdurdod lleol yng Nghymru. Mae’n cynnwys cyfeiriadur o dros 6,000 o wasanaethau lleol a chenedlaethol gan gynnwys gwasanaethau llywodraeth leol, grwpiau cymunedol, sefydliadau gwirfoddol a busnesau. Mae Infoengine yn ychwanegu cyfeiriadur cynhwysfawr o wybodaeth ynglŷn â gwasanaethau trydydd sector sy’n ei wneud yn ffynhonnell unigryw o wybodaeth i’w ddefnyddio ar draws Cymru. Mae hefyd yn cynnwys set o dudalennau gwybodaeth sy’n helpu pobl i feddwl am ‘beth sy’n bwysig’ iddynt, a’u galluogi i ddod o hyd i gymorth ymarferol lleol.
Mae’r datblygiad yma yn enghraifft arbennig o gyd-weithio rhwng y trydydd sector a’r sector gyhoeddus yng Nghymru, ac mae’n sicrhau bod gwybodaeth ar gael i’r cyhoedd ac i’r rheini sy’n paratoi gwasanaethau cyngor a chefnogaeth iddynt ar draws Cymru. Yn ymarferol, bydd gwybodaeth ar gael ar y ddau wefan gwaeth pa bynnag un mae’r wybodaeth yn cael ei ychwanegu arno.

Information sharing link now LIVE!

We are delighted to announce that technical developments allowing information about relevant third sector organisations and services to be shared between infoengine and Dewis Cymru are now operational.
Infoengine is an online directory of third sector services in Wales. It is provided and supported by Third Sector Support Wales, a partnership of County Voluntary Councils and the Wales Council for Voluntary Action. It has over 4,000 services offered by voluntary organisations and community groups. This number increases daily.
Dewis Cymru is a website providing information about well-being in Wales. The website is developed by Data Cymru on behalf of the 22 local authorities in Wales. It contains a resource directory of over 6,000 local and national organisations and services including local authority services, community groups, voluntary organisations and businesses. Infoengine adds to this a comprehensive set of information about third sector services making it a unique source of information for use across Wales. It also includes a set of Information Pages designed to help people think about ‘what matters’ to them, and helps them find local, practical support.
This development is a real example of practical collaboration between the third sector and the public sector in Wales and ensures that information is readily available to both the public and to those who offer advice and support to the public across Wales. In practical terms, information about such services is now visible on both sites regardless of where the information is added.

Key Messages from the Youth Work Reference Group

Youth Work Reference Group – Key messages July 2018

The Youth Work Reference Group (YWRG) was established in December 2014 to support Ministers to implement the National Youth Work Strategy. The remit of the group has changed slightly over time and revised Terms of Reference were agreed in January 2018 which states;
“the purpose of the Group is to provide advice, support, guidance and challenge to Welsh Ministers and the Welsh Government on youth work in Wales. The Group has no executive powers and is advisory in its purpose.”
In March 2018, the Minister for Welsh Language and Lifelong Learning set out her intention to develop a new long term National Youth Work Strategy, and recruit a new interim Youth Work Board. Details of the statement she made in March can be found here:
https://gov.wales/about/cabinet/cabinetstatements/2018/YouthWorkinWalesMovingForwardTogether/?lang=en
The YWRG play a key role in taking forward this work and has met 5 times so far in 2018. Since March, the YWRG have been focusing on the development of a new Youth Work Strategy for Wales. This has included giving consideration to key areas that will underpin the strategy, and processes for engaging with young people and the sector in its development.
Membership of the YWRG includes representatives from the Welsh Government, the Welsh Local Government Agency, local authorities, Principle Youth Officers, Council for Wales of Voluntary Youth Services (CWVYS), Estyn, The Professional Association of Lecturers in Youth and Community Work (known as TAG), Education Workforce Council (EWC), Education Training Standards Wales (ETS), Trade Unions, the Association of Directors of Education in Wales (ADEW), Ethnic Minorities and Youth Support Team (EYST), youth workers, Children’s Commissioner for Wales’ Office, and independent youth academics.
The purpose of circulating the following key messages is to enable the sector to understand the work that YWRG has been undertaking, and that which is planned.
At the latest meeting on 3 July the Youth Work Reference Group welcomed the appointment of Keith Towler as the Chair of Interim Youth Work Board. Going forward, consideration will be given to the establishment of a complementary working relationship between the Board and the Group.
The Group continued their discussions on the development of a new Youth Work Strategy for Wales, focusing on the following areas:
 A common vision for youth work and the role of the Youth Work Charter. This discussion was informed by the previous reviews and evaluations undertaken in 2017, Margaret Jervis’ report Our Future: A review of Extending Entitlement, and the outcomes from workshops with the youth work sector at the March conference.
 The need for a robust Workforce Development Framework to ensure the profession had access to appropriate professional learning and development.
 Communicating with the sector and young people. It was established that a refreshed approach was required, through the development of a new communications plan. This would give consideration to approaches for engaging with the sector over the development of the new strategy, as well as the delivery of the Youth Work Conference, Youth Work Excellence Awards, and Youth Work Week in 2019.
The group were updated on the publication date for ESTYN’s upcoming report ‘Youth Support Services in Wales – The Value of Youth Work’, which is currently scheduled for the end of July.

Grŵp Cyfeirio Gwaith Ieuenctid – prif negeseuon Gorffennaf 2018

Cafodd y Grŵp Cyfeirio Gwaith Ieuenctid ei sefydlu ym mis Rhagfyr 2014 i helpu Gweinidogion i weithredu'r Strategaeth Gwaith Ieuenctid Genedlaethol. Mae cylch gwaith y Grŵp wedi newid ychydig dros amser a chytunwyd ar Gylch Gorchwyl diwygiedig ym mis Ionawr 2018, sy'n datgan:
“Diben y Grŵp Cyfeirio yw cynnig cyngor, cymorth, arweiniad a her i Weinidogion Cymru a Llywodraeth Cymru ar waith ieuenctid yng Nghymru. Nid oes gan y Grŵp Cyfeirio bwerau gweithredol a'i ddiben yw cynghori."
Ym mis Mawrth 2018, amlinellodd Gweinidog y Gymraeg a Dysgu Gydol Oes ei bwriad i ddatblygu Strategaeth Gwaith Ieuenctid Genedlaethol hirdymor newydd, a recriwtio Bwrdd Gwaith Ieuenctid newydd interim. Mae'r datganiad a wnaeth ym mis Mawrth i'w weld yma:
https://gov.wales/about/cabinet/cabinetstatements/2018/YouthWorkinWalesMovingForwardTogether/?skip=1&lang=cy
Mae'r Grŵp Cyfeirio Gwaith Ieuenctid yn chwarae rôl allweddol o ran symud ymlaen â'r gwaith hwn ac wedi cwrdd 5 o weithiau hyd yn hyn yn 2018. Ers mis Mawrth, mae'r Grŵp wedi bod yn canolbwyntio ar ddatblygu Strategaeth Gwaith Ieuenctid newydd i Gymru. Mae hyn wedi cynnwys ystyried y meysydd a fydd yn sail i'r strategaeth, a'r prosesau ar gyfer ymgysylltu â phobl ifanc a'r sector wrth fynd ati i'w datblygu.
Mae aelodau'r Grŵp yn cynnwys cynrychiolwyr o Lywodraeth Cymru, Cymdeithas Llywodraeth Leol Cymru, awdurdodau lleol, Prif Swyddogion Ieuenctid, Cyngor Cymreig y Gwasanaethau Ieuenctid Gwirfoddol, Estyn, Cymdeithas Broffesiynol Darlithwyr mewn Gwaith Ieuenctid a Chymunedol (TAG), Cyngor y Gweithlu Addysg, Safonau Addysg Hyfforddiant Cymru, Undebau Llafur, Cymdeithas Cyfarwyddwyr Addysg Cymru, Tîm Cymorth Lleiafrifoedd Ethnig ac Ieuenctid, gweithwyr ieuenctid, Swyddfa Comisiynydd Plant Cymru, ac academyddion gwaith ieuenctid annibynnol.
Rydym yn lledaenu'r negeseuon allweddol canlynol er mwyn helpu'r sector i ddeall y gwaith y mae'r Grŵp Cyfeirio Gwaith Ieuenctid wedi bod yn ei wneud, a'r hyn sydd ar y gweill.
Yn y cyfarfod diwethaf ar 3 Gorffennaf, croesawodd y Grŵp benodiad Keith Towler fel Cadeirydd y Bwrdd Gwaith Ieuenctid Interim. Y cam nesaf fydd ystyried sefydlu perthynas waith rhwng y Bwrdd a'r Grŵp.
Gwnaeth y Grŵp barhau â'i drafodaeth ynghylch datblygu Strategaeth Gwaith Ieuenctid newydd i Gymru sy'n canolbwyntio ar y meysydd canlynol:
 Gweledigaeth gyffredin ar gyfer gwaith ieuenctid a rôl y Siarter Gwaith Ieuenctid. Cafodd y drafodaeth hon ei llywio gan yr adolygiadau a'r gwerthusiadau blaenorol a wnaed yn 2017, adroddiad Margaret Jervis 'Ein
Dyfodol: Adolygiad o Ymestyn Hawliau', a chanlyniadau'r gweithdai gyda'r sector gwaith ieuenctid yn y gynhadledd ym mis Mawrth.
 Yr angen am fframwaith cadarn i ddatblygu'r gweithlu er mwyn sicrhau bod gan y proffesiwn fynediad at ddysgu a datblygu proffesiynol priodol.
 Cyfathrebu â'r sector a phobl ifanc. Nodwyd bod angen dull gweithredu newydd drwy ddatblygu cynllun cyfathrebu newydd. Byddai'r cynllun hwn yn ystyried ffyrdd o ymgysylltu â'r sector ynghylch datblygu'r strategaeth newydd, ynghyd â chyflawni'r Gynhadledd Gwaith Ieuenctid, y Gwobrau Rhagoriaeth Gwaith Ieuenctid ac Wythnos Gwaith Ieuenctid yn 2019.
Cafodd y Grŵp ei hysbysu am y dyddiad cyhoeddi ar gyfer adroddiad Estyn 'Gwasanaethau Cymorth Ieuenctid yng Nghymru - Gwerth Gwaith Ieuenctid', sef diwedd Gorffennaf.

STI Pilot at Young People's Village

Sexually Transmitted Infection Testing Pilot 2018

For the second year running it is planned to offer chlamydia testing at the Young People’s Village at the Royal Welsh Show. The scheme is funded by Public Health Wales as part of a 2 year pilot of outreach chlamydia testing.

The pilot will be undertaken over a period of four days at the Young People’s Village during the Royal Welsh Show July 2018. School nurses will be offering the service supported by the wider Health and Wellbeing team. This will provide a great opportunity to raise awareness about sexual health in young people.

The offer of STI testing will be available only to Powys residents to ensure appropriate follow up in event of a positive test. Young people from other areas will be given information and support to access services in their own areas.

Tests will be self administered and the young people will be provided with an envelope to post to the Public Health laboratories in Cardiff. Positive results will be handled by the School Nurse Team Leader who will liaise with the young people to support them to arrange their choice appropriate health care and treatment.

The outcome of this pilot will be used to inform the Sexual Health Improvement plan for Powys Teaching Health Board as well as the outreach chlamydia testing work that Public Health Wales are undertaking.
