Sexually Transmitted Infection Testing Pilot
2018
For the second year
running it is planned to offer chlamydia testing at the Young People’s Village
at the Royal Welsh Show. The scheme is funded by Public Health Wales as part of
a 2 year pilot of outreach chlamydia testing.
The pilot will be
undertaken over a period of four days at the Young People’s Village during the
Royal Welsh Show July 2018. School nurses will be offering the service
supported by the wider Health and Wellbeing team. This will provide a great
opportunity to raise awareness about sexual health in young people.
The offer of STI
testing will be available only to Powys residents to ensure appropriate follow
up in event of a positive test. Young people from other areas will be given
information and support to access services in their own areas.
Tests will be self
administered and the young people will be provided with an envelope to post to
the Public Health laboratories in Cardiff. Positive results will be handled by
the School Nurse Team Leader who will liaise with the young people to support
them to arrange their choice appropriate health care and treatment.
The outcome of this
pilot will be used to inform the Sexual Health Improvement plan for Powys
Teaching Health Board as well as the outreach chlamydia testing work that
Public Health Wales are undertaking.
