Training-Hyfforddiant: E-Safety With the Under 8's / E-Ddiogelwch gyda phlant o dan 8 oed

TRAINING PROGRAMME / RHAGLEN HYFFORDDI
E-Safety With the Under 8's

E-Safety With the Under 8's
2 October 2014, Cardiff - Online Booking Form

A half day course
Children are increasingly becoming regular users of internet connected devices from a very young age.  A study 'Children and parents: Media use and attitudes in the nations', published by Ofcom in 2012 reported that in each of the four nations over 80% of children aged 5-15 use the internet at home. Parents of children aged 5 -15 in Wales are more likely than the UK average to have concerns about content on the internet (25% vs. 17%) and smartphone ownership among 5 -15s has increased in all four nations since 2011.  Adults who care for and support young children, and their parents often express a lack of confidence in using and managing access to the technology that the children take for granted.

This course is aimed at anyone working with children under 8 years old and who wants to ensure that any access to new technology (computers, tablets, games consoles, smart phones etc) is both safe and appropriate. It is particularly suitable for adults who are not IT specialists.

Aims
For adults who work directly with younger children or with their parents to better understand the implications of internet use in this age group.  To explore concerns, and to develop some practical methods to support safe use of a range of devises that are increasing becoming an integral part of the daily lives of young children.

Learning outcomes

Participants will:
  • Understand the ways in which children are able to access the internet
  • Consider both the risks and benefits of younger children using internet connected devices
  • Understand the benefits and shortcomings of using parental controls on a variety of devices
  • Devised a set of ground rules for safe use of the internet and computers
  • Be able to support children to better protect themselves online
  • Identify warning signs to be aware of and how to report concerns
About the Trainer
Jon Trew is an experienced child protection trainer having delivered training to groups as diverse as housing maintenance staff, dentists and childcare workers.  Jon has wide experience of working with children of all ages and backgrounds, having managed a children's center, a nursery, an afterschool club and holiday play-care schemes.  As early as the 1990's Jon was an enthusiast for using computers to work with children as young as four and five and has continued to promote safe ways for young children to access the internet and other electronic media.  Jon has experience of working face to face with children as well as a deep understanding of the technical challenges it presents.  Jon said "A study in October 2011 found on average, the children who use computers started doing so at age 3 ½, while half of children under 8 in the US had access to a mobile device like a smartphone, an iPad or other tablet. The internet offers huge opportunities for our children to explore, learn and enjoy, however the benefits of this revolution are matched by threats and difficulties.  Waiting until children reach their early teens before we consider internet safety is just too late. Parents, teachers and all child care professionals must rise to this challenge and ensure they are able to guide, monitor and protect our children through this new age".
Costs:

E-Ddiogelwch Gyda Phlant o Dan 8 Oed
2 October 2014, Caerdydd - Ffurflen Archebu Ar-lein
Cwrs hanner diwrnod

Mwyfwy mae plant yn dod yn ddefnyddwyr rheolaidd o ddyfeisiau sy'n gysylltiedig a'r rhyngrwyd. Yn ol astudiaeth 'Children and parents: Media use and attitudes in the nations', a gyhoeddwyd gan Ofcom yn 2012, ym mhob un o'r pedair gwlad mae dros 80% o blant 5-15 oed yn defnyddio'r rhyngrwyd gartref. Mae rhieni plant 5-15 oed yng Nghymru yn fwy tebygol na chyfartaledd y DU i fod yn pryderu am gynnwys ar y rhyngrwyd (25% o'i gymharu â 17%) ac mae perchnogaeth ar ffonau clyfar ymhlith plant 5-15 oed wedi cynyddu ym mhob un o'r pedair gwlad ers 2011.  Mae'r oedolion sy'n gofalu am blant ifanc ac yn eu cefnogi, a hefyd eu rhieni, yn aml yn mynegi diffyg hyder ynghylch defnyddio a rheoli mynediad i'r dechnoleg y mae'r plant yn ei chymryd yn ganiataol.

Mae'r cwrs yma wedi'i fwriadu ar gyfer unrhyw un sy'n gweithio gyda phlant o dan 8 oed ac sydd am sicrhau bod unrhyw fynediad at dechnoleg newydd (cyfrifiaduron, tabledi, consolau gemau, ffonau clyfar ac ati) yn ddiogel ac yn briodol. Mae'n arbennig o addas ar gyfer oedolion sydd ddim yn arbenigo mewn TG.

Nodau
Bod oedolion sy'n gweithio'n uniongyrchol gyda phlant iau neu gyda'u rhieni yn deall yn well oblygiadau defnyddio'r rhyngrwyd i'r grwp oedran yma. Archwilio pryderon, a datblygu rhai dulliau ymarferol i gefnogi defnydd diogel o amrywiaeth o ddyfeisiau sy'n dod yn gynyddol yn rhan annatod o fywydau beunyddiol plant ifanc.

Amcanion dysgu

Bydd y cyfranogwyr yn:
  • Deall ym mha ffyrdd mae plant yn gallu cyrchu'r rhyngrwyd
  • Ystyried peryglon a manteision plant iau yn defnyddio dyfeisiau cysylltiedig â'r rhyngrwyd
  • Deall manteision a gwendidau rhieni'n defnyddio dulliau rheoli ar amrywiaeth o ddyfeisiau
  • Llunio cyfres o reolau sylfaenol ar gyfer defnydd diogel o'r rhyngrwyd a chyfrifiaduron
  • Gallu cefnogi plant i amddiffyn eu hunain yn well ar-lein
  • Adnabod arwyddion rhybudd y dylid bod yn ymwybodol ohonyn nhw a sut mae rhoi gwybod am bryderon
Ynghylch yr Hyfforddwr

Mae Jon Trew yn hyfforddwr profiadol ym maes amddiffyn plant, gan ei fod wedi cyflwyno hyfforddiant i grwpiau mor amrywiol â staff cynnal tai, deintyddion a gweithwyr gofal plant. Mae gan Jon brofiad eang o weithio gyda phlant o bob oed a chefndir, gan iddo reoli canolfan blant, meithrinfa, clwb ar ôl ysgol a chynlluniau chwarae yn ystod y gwyliau. Mor gynnar â'r 1990au, roedd Jon yn frwd dros ddefnyddio cyfrifiaduron i weithio gyda phlant mor ifanc â 4 neu 5 oed, ac mae wedi parhau i hybu ffyrdd diogel i blant ifanc gael mynediad i'r rhyngrwyd a chyfryngau electronig eraill. Mae gan Jon brofiad helaeth o weithio wyneb yn wyneb â phlant, yn ogystal â dealltwriaeth fanwl o'r heriau technegol a ddaw yn sgîl hynny. Fel y dywedodd Jon "Dangosodd astudiaeth ym mis Hydref 2011 fod y plant sy'n defnyddio cyfrifiaduron, ar gyfartaledd, yn dechrau gwneud hynny yn 3½ oed, tra bod hanner y plant o dan 8 yn yr Unol Daleithiau yn gallu cyrchu dyfais symudol fel ffôn clyfar, iPad neu dabled arall. Mae'r Rhyngrwyd yn cynnig cyfleoedd aruthrol i'n plant archwilio, dysgu a mwynhau, ond ochr yn ochr â manteision y chwyldro hon ceir bygythiadau ac anawsterau. Mae aros nes bod plant yn cyrraedd eu harddegau cynnar cyn ystyried diogelwch ar y rhyngrwyd yn rhy hwyr.  Rhaid i rieni, athrawon a phob gweithiwr gofal plant proffesiynol ymateb i'r her hon a sicrhau eu bod yn medru tywys, monitro ac amddiffyn ein plant yn yr oes newydd hon".
