Attachment and its Role in Children's Lives

A one-day course
This course is aimed at all those interested in the emotional development of babies and children, and particularly those working with, or supporting children and families in stressful circumstances. Attachment disorder has come to be understood as a major contributor to behavioural and emotional problems in children, and in the development of personality disorders in adulthood. Understanding the importance of attachment in early development and how to recognize when family bonds are undermined are critical skills for those working with families. Practitioners also need skills in direct and systemic work to support children with attachment difficulties. This course therefore also describes the interventions that are available if you are working directly with children and their caregivers.

About the Trainer
Veronica Grant worked as a social worker for many years and later as a children's advocate for children in need of protection, in the care system or facing exclusion from school. Over the years Veronica has provided training and consultancy to a wide variety of organisations from sports and faith groups, commercial organisations and organisations within the statutory and voluntary sectors. She has also undertaken a number of consultations with children and young people, some for Welsh Government, to inform reports and service provision. Veronica now works as a Play Therapist for children who have experienced trauma or are encountering emotional or behavioural difficulties.

Mae'r cwrs hwn wedi'i anelu at bawb sydd â diddordeb yn natblygiad emosiynol babanod a phlant, ac yn enwedig y rheiny sy'n gweithio gyda phlant a theuluoedd sydd mewn ymgylchiadau unigol, neu sy'n eu cynorthwyo. Daethpwyd i ddeall fod anhwylder ymlyniad yn gyfrannwr o bwys i broblemau ymddygiadol ac emosiynol mewn plant, ac yn natblygiad anhwylderau personoliaeth mewn oedolion. Mae deall pwysigrwydd ymlyniad mewn datblygiad cynnar a sut i adnabod pryd mae rhwymau teuluol yn cael eu tanseilio yn sgiliau hanfodol i'r rheiny sy'n gweithio gyda theuluoedd. Hefyd mae ar ymarferwyr angen sgiliau mewn gwaith uniongyrchol a systemig i gefnogi plant sydd ag anawsterau ymlyniad. Felly mae'r cwrs hwn hefyd yn disgrifio'r ymyriadau sydd ar gael os ydych yn gweithio'n uniongyrchol gyda phlant a'u rhoddwyr gofal.

Bu Veronica Grant yn weithiwr cymdeithasol am flynyddoedd lawer, ac yn ddiweddarach daeth yn eiriolwr plant ar gyfer plant y mae angen eu hamddiffyn, sydd yn y system ofal, neu sy'n wynebu cael eu gwahardd o'r ysgol. Dros y blynyddoedd, mae Veronica wedi darparu hyfforddiant a gwasanaethau ymgynghorol i ystod eang o gyrff, yn cynnwys grwpiau chwaraeon a ffydd, sefydliadau masnachol a sefydliadau yn y sectorau statudol a gwirfoddol. Mae hi hefyd wedi cynnal nifer o ymgyngoriadau gyda phlant a phobl ifanc, rhai ohonynt i Lywodraeth Cymru, i hysbysu adroddiadau a darparu gwasanaethau. Bellach mae Veronica yn gweithio fel Therapydd Chwarae i blant sydd wedi profi trawma neu sy'n wynebu anawsterau emosiynol neu ymddygiadol.
