Consultation: Improving opportunities to Access the outdoors

Improving opportunities to access the outdoors for responsible recreation

Access to the outdoors for recreation is a key part of our natural resources policy.
Start of consultation:10/07/2015
End of consultation:02/10/2015
Everyone should have the chance to experience parks, woodlands, mountains and the coast through a range of activities. Outdoor recreation makes a valuable contribution to Wales and creates a number of health, environment, social and economic benefits.
We are seeking views on:
  • ways to reduce the costs and burdens associated with administering public paths and wider access
  • how we could better meet current and future recreational needs
  • ways to tackle some of the practical difficulties of improving opportunities for all, not just for those who can afford to travel or those who are already enthusiasts about an activity.

HOW TO RESPOND

Please submit your comments by 02 October 2015, in any of the following ways:

Supporting Youth Services in Powys: Help Us Help You

Help Us Help You ….

Further to our announcement in August regarding the future of youth services in light of very difficult budgetary pressures, PAVO is about to embark on an assessment of the capability of the voluntary youth sector in relation to open access youth provision.

We are drawing up an in-depth survey to map out the provision currently on offer from the voluntary youth sector.  The survey will generally cover the:
·           extent,
·           quality,
·           sustainability
·           and safety of provision.
The information from this survey will be crucial to inform planning of resources and support for groups.  The voluntary sector may well have to meet an increased level of demand, in terms of the numbers of young people and meeting their specific, sometimes challenging, diverse needs.

In addition to the survey, we will be arranging opportunities to bring together and meet with groups in the very near future to hear more about the opportunities your group provides to young people.
This will be an exciting opportunity for voluntary youth groups across Powys to plan and shape with us the future face of youth provision.

So that we gather the right information it would be helpful if your organisation is a PAVO member and/or registered on Powys InfoEngine.
If you are affiliated to a national organisation please make sure your representatives are able to provide the information to feed through to us.  We look forward to working with all our partners to create the best possible opportunities for young people in Powys to achieve their potential.

Look out for the survey coming your way during October, share and spread the word and help us help you.

Shared Purpose: Shared Future - draft statutory guidance for the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015

This post is to inform you about the plans of the Welsh Ministers to consult on draft statutory guidance for the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015.

The Act provides a legally binding common purpose and way of working to drive forward the activities of public bodies across and will shape their future planning and corporate arrangements.  It also aims to ensure public bodies recognise the multiple benefits they make to all the well-being goals as well as how they work collectively with each other.  Our intention is that the draft guidance provides public bodies with the tools to meet the ambitions of the Act.

Earlier this year the Welsh Government ran an engagement exercise, based on a discussion document, for the statutory guidance with interested stakeholders.  The feedback received provided valuable evidence to inform the current draft and we are looking for further contributions against these document.

The consultation runs between 7 September and 16 November 2015.  Four consultation events will be run during October, details of which are on the website below. I encourage you or a representative from your organisation to attend these events.  Materials will also be made available during the consultation to help you have the conversations in your organisation on how public bodies can get the best out of the new legislation, in advance of the duty coming into force in April 2016.
