Introduction to e-participation and social media Tuesday 13th October 2015 10am - 4pm WCVA, Rhyl Cost  WCVA Members: £125 Voluntary Sector: £155 Private and Public Sector: £185   Aim: For participants to explore how they could use social media within their own organisation to engage with service users and communities.     Content: Participants will explore the use of social media as tools for citizen, community and service user engagement. This course will enable participants to explore and identify opportunities for using e-participation and social networking technology within their area of work. Participants will evaluate methods of e-participation and social networking; identifying opportunities and limitations. With a focus on current technologies and relevance within Wales, this participative course will draw on participant’s experiences, case studies and examples where social media have been used in engagement and participation activities. Learning outcomes: By the end of the course participants will be able to:   Discuss methods for engaging people through use of social media, and identify those that may be relevant to their needs Evaluate methods of e-participation and social networking in relation to their area of work Analyse case studies where e-participation has been used Explore the technology Identify barriers to participation using social media Recognise the needs of different audiences and steps to meet needs Know how to access additional information and resources Who this course is for: Frontline staff and managers looking to develop the use of technology as a method to engage with service users and communities   Book your space here   Also Coming up soon... It will allow participants to explore and understand the legislative and policy framework that supports the inclusion of disabled children. Thinking about the Unthinkable: Child Sexual Abuse 30 September & 1 October 2015, Rhyl - Online Booking Form 21 & 22 October 2015, Cardiff - Online Booking Form A two-day course Child sexual abuse is in the media like never before, but the extent of the abuse and the variety of ways children are sexually abused can be overwhelming. The aim of this course is to help us disentangle the subject so we can think clearly and safely, thus enabling us to better protect children. Day One: concerns have been expressed that with all the focus on professional and institutional abuse, sexual abuse within the family is still being overlooked.  We will consider: The grooming process and pre-conditions for sexual abuse Indicators that may alert us to child sexual abuse Ways to assess and promote the protective capacity of the non-abusing parent The short and long term effects of child sexual abuse and the therapeutic needs of the child The effect that child sexual abuse can have on the professional network around the child Ways to encourage and build a protective environment  Day Two: will focus on abuse outside of the immediate family. We will consider: How an individual can abuse within an institution How an abuser can 'hide in plain sight' What an organisation can do to create a protective environment Child sexual exploitation: how to recognise the danger signals Sexually harmful behaviour by children and young people Sexual bullying and sexual aggression in young people's relationships  About the Trainers Gabrielle Eisele Gabrielle Eisele is a BAPT qualified Play Therapist and has been working with children and young people across the UK for over 30 years. Gabrielle has worked with children and young people in such diverse roles as specialist advocate for disabled children and young people, special needs development worker, Adviser for the Family Fund Trust, Portage worker, secondary school teacher, college and university lecturer, and child worker for Women's Aid, as well as providing training in all areas of child welfare and development, disability awareness and Autism across Wales. Gabrielle's academic background is in psychology, with a BSc (Hons), MSc in Psychology, Advanced Diploma in Positive Behaviour Support, MA in Developmental and Therapeutic Play and an MSc in Play Therapy. Gabrielle works in private therapy practice and is the director and founder of The Windfall Centre in mid-Wales. Gabrielle is also the parent of an autistic child. Veronica Grant Veronica Grant worked as a social worker for many years and later as a children's advocate for children in need of protection, in the care system or facing exclusion from school. Over the years Veronica has provided training and consultancy to a wide variety of organisations from sports and faith groups, commercial organisations and organisations within the statutory and voluntary sectors. She has also undertaken a number of consultations with children and young people, some for Welsh Government, to inform reports and service provision. Veronica now works as a Play Therapist for children who have experienced trauma or are encountering emotional or behavioural difficulties.  COST: Members £165  Non-members £195  This course is also offered as in-house training, please contact training@childreninwales.org.uk for more information.

Attachment and its Role in Children's Lives 19 March 2014, Rhyl - Booking Form 2 April 2014, Merthyr Tydfil - Booking Form  A one-day course   This course is aimed at all those interested in the emotional development of babies and children, and particularly those working with, or supporting children and families in stressful circumstances. Attachment disorder has come to be understood as a major contributor to behavioural and emotional problems in children, and in the development of personality disorders in adulthood. Understanding the importance of attachment in early development and how to recognize when family bonds are undermined are critical skills for those working with families. Practitioners also need skills in direct and systemic work to support children with attachment difficulties. This course therefore also describes the interventions that are available if you are working directly with children and their caregivers.  The course will explore:  Why attachment matters How attachment patterns are formed What happens when attachment goes wrong How observation can help us assess attachment What we can do to strengthen and repair attachment relationships within families   About the Trainer:  Veronica Grant worked as a social worker for many years and later as a children's advocate for children in need of protection, in the care system or facing exclusion from school.
