Aims
Accredited by Agored Cymru
To enable learners to understand how to use a ‘Shared Power’ engagement model in project work.

Content
Participants will have an opportunity to build on their existing skills and knowledge in Public engagement by exploring in more the depth the higher levels of engagement i.e. Shared Power and Citizen Control. The course offers knowledge, skills, tools and reflective practice to enable practitioners to put into practice these higher levels of engagement. It is advisable that participants has firstly complete the ‘Public Engagement: Theory and Practice’ course, delivered by Participation Cymru or an equivalent.

Learning outcomes
By the end of the course participants will:
  • Understand levels of engagement and their characteristics
  • Understand how to influence decision-makers to potentially change organisational culture
  • Be able to use a shared power model of engagement in planning a project
  • Be able to reflect on practice
Who this course is for:
This course is aimed at those who work within public services who want to further develop and increase their skills and knowledge in public engagement, particularly at the level of Shared Power (which includes co-production).

You will need to commit to:
  • Attending the full 3-day course
  • Developing a project related to your area of work and submitting a project report

In January 2015 the Minister for Local Government published a consultation on a White Paper: Reforming Local Government- Power to Local People.This network event aims to look at the practical implications of this from the perspective of those with a responsibility for service delivery.

Target audience: Engagement practitioners across the public and third sectors

Aim:  To increase the skills of those who work with individuals and communities in sharing the responsibility, power and resources for public services.

By the end of the day participants will have
  • learnt more about the concept of sharing power with local people
  • gained practical skills in enabling the sharing of power to happen
  • heard about current practice through case studies
