Recognising and Responding to Bullying Behaviours

Recognising and Responding to Bullying Behaviours
6 March 2014 - Booking Form

A one-day course

Evidence and practice shows that bullying affects the emotional well-being and mental health of children and young people. Research has identified that:
  • Over 30% of Childline callers report that they have experienced bullying
  • 2/3 of young carers are bullied at school
  • "Bullying was a common theme, with nearly every group citing this as a reason for non-attendance" (National Behaviour and Attendance Review 2009)
  • 18% of pupils in Year 6, falling to 11% in Year 10, admit to bullying other pupils   (All Wales Survey of Bullying in Schools 2009)

Reducing bullying incidents is undoubtedly a shared objective between children, young people, professionals and practitioners alike, however, addressing issues raised by children and young people can often prove challenging and, in some instances, we may feel unable to resolve conflict.

In order to address issues around bullying it is vital that professionals and practitioners, who work with children and young people, have a shared understanding of what determines bullying behavior, and feel confident in applying consistent approaches to prevent and tackle bullying.

This one day course will provide an overview of bullying, addressing the following areas:
  • Understanding bullying and the complexity of behaviours that arise through bullying incidents
  • Recognising when bullying may be occurring
  • Responding effectively to reports of bullying
  • Identifying strategies to prevent bullying behaviours

Mae lleihau digwyddiadau bwlio yn bendant yn nod cyffredin i blant, pobl ifanc, gweithwyr proffesiynol ac ymarferwyr fel ei gilydd, ond yn aml gall mynd i'r afael a'r materion a godir gan blant a phobl ifanc fod yn heriol ac, mewn rhai achosion, efallai y teimlwn ein bod yn methu datrys yr anghydfod.

Er mwyn ymdrin a materion mewn perthynas a bwlio, mae'n hanfodol bod gan weithwyr proffesiynol ac ymarferwyr, sy'n gweithio gyda phlant a phobl ifanc, ddealltwriaeth gyffredin o beth sy'n pennu ymddygiad bwlio, a'u bod yn teimlo'n hyderus wrth gymhwyso dulliau cyson o atal ac ymdrin a bwlio.

Bydd y cwrs undydd hwn yn cynnig trosolwg o fwlio, gan drafod y meysydd canlynol:
  • Deall bwlio a chymhlethdod yr ymddygiadau sy'n codi drwy ddigwyddiadau bwlio
  • Adnabod pryd gall bwlio fod yn digwydd
  • Ymateb yn effeithiol i adroddiadau o fwlio
  • Nodi strategaethau i atal ymddygiadau bwlio

Mae Rachel Beddoe wedi gweithio ym maes gwrthfwlio a iechyd a lles emosiynol a meddyliol ers saith mlynedd bellach. Mae hi wedi cefnogi ysgolion a lleoliadau ieuenctid a chymuned i ddatblygu polisi ac ymarfer er mwyn atal ymddygiad bwlio ac ymateb iddo, yn ogystal â datblygu rhaglenni o waith i gefnogi pobl ifanc pryderus. Mae Rachel wedi cyhoeddi adnoddau ar y cyd, ac wedi rhoi cyflwyniadau mewn cynadleddau Rhyngwladol ar ymdrin â bwlio ymhlith merched yn eu harddegau, cynyddu hunan-barch, a meithrin perthnasoedd cadarnhaol. Ar hyn o bryd mae Rachel yn astudio ar gyfer MA mewn addysg, ac mae ei hymchwil a'i hastudiaethau yn canolbwyntio ar ymdrin ag effeithiau tlodi a hybu lles plant.
