The Childhood Measure Report 2013 reveals that children, aged 4-5 years old, overall 28.2% of children were classed as overweight or obese. In Powys, 29% of children aged 4-5 are overweight or obese.
A number of agencies are coming together to look at this situation, including Powys County Council, Powys teaching Local Health Board and the third sector. There is an action plan being developed but this issue needs the involvement of the community to find the solutions and work out the support families really need.
If you wish to see the action plan please contact Yvonne at PAVO who can provide further details.
Is there anything your organisation can do to help? For example
- take up the UNICEF baby friendly initiative on your premises
- promote consistent messages for children & young people and their families
- encourage physical activity
