Family Anonymous group in Welshpool - new day and venue

FAMILY ANONYMOUS MEETING

For Relatives & Friends Concerned about the use of Drugs, Alcohol or Related Behavioural Problems

DOES SOMEONE YOU CARE ABOUT USE DRUGS OR ALCOHOL?

What do you do if you discover, or even just suspect, that someone you love is taking drugs?  Do you confront them?  Do you seek advice? If so, who from? Police?  School?  A priest?  Your doctor?  The neighbours?

Drug or alcohol abuse is a very frightening and isolating problem and it helps to talk to people who know what it feels like to be in this situation.  There is help available and there is hope.

Families Anonymous (FA) is a fellowship of self-help groups for families and friends of drug and alcohol abusers.  Based on the famous ‘Twelve Steps’ of Alcoholics Anonymous, about 50 groups meet weekly all over the country.

new Family Anonymous group for Welshpool

Family Anonymous are starting a group in Welshpool.  It begins on Monday 6^th July 2015 at 7.30 – 8.30 pm and every Monday thereafter.

The meeting will be for relatives and friends concerned about the use of Drugs and Alcohol or related behavioural problems.  When addiction enters a family via one of its members, the effect can be devastating.  The Family Anonymous group will be confidential, nonprofessional, offer mutual support and tools for new ways to deal with the situations of stress and worry.  It will be based on the “Twelve Steps”.  It will be first names only and no dues or fees are required.  Newcomers are welcome without prior arrangements.  The meetings will be held at:-

Play Montgomeryshire Plays throughout North Powys

 
Play Montgomeryshire is running a number of Play Projects throughout North Powys this May Half Term. They are joining up with Newtown Library again and are bringing crafts out of Africa for the session by running a Craft Workshop and Story Telling at Newtown Library on Tuesday 26th May from 1.30 to 3.30pm. Newtown Library will be reading  stories to the children from 1.30pm, and Play Montgomeryshire will be running a Stay and Play session for children of all ages from 2 to 3.30pm.  The Stay and Play craft session will involve craft activities related to Africa, plus toys to play with and join in with their friends. As usual members (membership is free of charge) may buy craft materials to do their own crafts over the Holidays. All children are welcome to join us at these Play Sessions in Newtown Library - there will be something for all ages.

Play Montgomeryshire is continuing its play sessions on Bryn Y Gog Estate in Machynlleth over the half term on Tuesday and Thursday 11am to 3pm all free of charge. All play will be outdoors and include a range of loose parts that kids just love to play with - Tarpaulins, ropes, bats and balls, paint and paper etc. The play will take place  just outside the closed shop on the green. It will be staffed by Play Workers who will support free of charge, free of spirit play with local children.  

The same type of play will be taking place for the children of Oldford, and the rest of the Welshpool area to enjoy, just up from the Skansis Pitch on the Tuesday from 2 to 4pm and the Thursday 1 to 4pm.

The Stay and Play sessions at Machynlleth Community Church will continue during the holidays on Wednesdays from 10 to 12am, as will the craft sessions on the first Saturday of the month from10.30 to 12am. Newtown Library craft sessions will be on the last Saturday of the month at the same time.

Whats on At Monty Clubbers - Autumn Term 2014

Play Montgomeryshire’s Monty Clubbers Youth Group operates as an inclusive scheme for children and young people of all abilities and from all backgrounds aged 10 to 19 years old. It is held in the Welshpool Youth Club in Howell Drive (near Maesydre School) – it is a specially designed Youth Club that benefits from a good range of suitable equipment to meet everyone’s needs. Activities include arts and crafts, games and sports, cooking, computers and other fun activities.

At present it runs every Tuesday during Term Time from 4.30 to 6.30pm, although this is very dependent on funding from external sources. 

All children and young people will have to complete a registration form before the session. This is to ensure we are aware of any individual requirements and have emergency contact information.

Playing in the May Half Term

Play returns to Montgomeryshire

Play Montgomeryshire are bringing two play sessions to Newtown and Machynlleth during the May half term Holiday, and one in Welshpool and Caersws - all of them free of charge.

They will be running a Splash of Play, outside in 

Machynlleth on the Bryn y Gog Estate, on Tuesday 27th May from 10am to 12 noon

Caersws at the Main Street Playground, on Tuesday 27th May from 2 to 4pm

Newtown Town Park near Radio Hafren, on Thursday 29th May from 10am to 12 noon.

Welshpool on the Oldford Estate near Scansis Pitch, on Thursday 29th May from 2 to 4pm

Activities will include games, crafts, dressing up and woodland activities. It is free of charge and open to all children. The activities are targeted to children aged 8 to 12 years old, but other children are welcome. Teens can enjoy supporting the younger children (and do a bit themselves), whilst children under 8 years will need to bring their own responsible adult who can also join in the fun!

 

They will also be joining up with Newtown Library to play and do crafts about ponds and bugs, on Tuesday 27th May from 10am to 12 noon in Newtown Library. The Library Staff will be reading stories to the children and Play Montgomeryshire will be running a Stay and Play session for children of all ages afterwards.

The Stay and Play sessions will involve a wide range of interesting and challenging craft activities, plus toys to play with and join in with their friends. Activities include Pond plates, pipecleaner bugs and magic butterflies.

There will also be the regular Play Montgomeryshire last Saturday of the month  craft session from 10.30 to 12 from 31st May onwards.

The usual Machynlleth Stay and Play in the Machynlleth Community Church will be running on the Wednesday from 10 to 12, their Saturday craft session will be on the 7th June from 10.30 to 12 noon.

The Stay and Play's also operate a Play Resource Library, selling low cost craft items and loaning toys for a small fee. Membership is free of charge, but you do not need to be a member to come and play.

Don't forget that if you are working with children, young people and their families trustees, staff and volunteers need to be aware and know about how you can be involved in supporting families at the earliest opportunity.  This means families do not move towards crisis but are supported by all those agencies they come in contact with.

The training is FREE and ESSENTIAL for organisations working with children, young people and families.
