As you will be aware, Powys County Council is currently facing very significant financial pressures. It is planning to reduce its budget by a third over the next few years. This will inevitably have an impact on every aspect of its work and operation, including youth services.
The council's approach to these challenges is to work with communities and partner agencies from all sectors in order to redesign services and identify new, collaborative ways of delivery. It is widely accepted that communities and the Third Sector in Powys could play a key role in this future scenario.
PAVO has recently held initial, exploratory discussions with PCC's youth services. A strategy is being developed to provide a framework for the redesign of some elements of youth service provision across Powys. PCC is committed to engaging with partners and to involving the third sector in the developing and shaping of this strategy. In particular, it is keen to capture the creativity and innovation of grass roots, youth organisations.
As soon as there is tangible information to share, PAVO will ensure its dissemination to all members of our Children & Families Network. It will also appear on here on a regular basis so please make sure you follow the page.
In addition, PAVO will, at the earliest opportunity, invite organisations to a specially convened meeting of the network at which key officers from PCC will be present. This will provide an opportunity to begin dialogue and collaboration with regards these crucial matters for young people in Powys.
In the meantime, if you have any queries or would like to discuss any issues, please contact PAVO's Children & Families Facilitator, Yvonne Owen Newns [yvonne.owennewns@pavo.org.uk 01597 822191].
