Supporting children, young people and families what do we call the process?

Joint the debate!

Most of us have been there.  Sometimes things in life just goes wrong and it's just a bit harder to keep all the balls in the air at the same time.  Sometimes it's small, and sometimes it's big.  Sometimes it's just what happens:  a grandparent is in hospital, someone loses their job, starting a new school, having a baby, moving house.  Mostly we can cope but sometimes we can't .....

There IS help and support out there for parents, children and young people to deal with life when it's on the way down.  But what do you call a whole process of talking with and supporting families and between a wide ranges of services?  There is a process to help families with a wide range of organisations in the County Council, Health and Voluntary Sector working together.  This process is made up of 3 parts:

step 1:
What's happening? what are the problems? who may be able to help?

step 2:
Looking to see what services and organisations could maybe help and bringing them together with families.

step 3:
Finding someone who can work with the family and sort out things with services to help the family.

Here's my suggestions for naming this process:

Step 1:

Child And Family Action Plan.
Rationale:

Child And Family as the child/ren are paramount, therefore, comes first.

Action Plan. The process should be around ACTION, making things happen. Action planning processes means incorporates looking at where we are at, where we want to be and the steps to get there.

Step 2:

Child and Family Action Team
Rationale:

Again, Child comes first. The focus has to be on the Child & Family NOT on the services providing the solutions.

Provides a clear link and follow through from the Action Plan through to the Action Team. They are part of the whole.

Action - something IS going to happen and it's not just talking (that happens in a forum or panel).

Team - a team approach, working WITH the family not doing to.

Step 3:

Child and Family (Action?) Agent.

AGENT is the word for someone working for and on behalf of the family, talking with a range of services that will make a difference.

What do you think? Any further suggestions?

If you have any concerns about someone being harmed or abused report it.

Sign our petition to protect young witnesses

No child abuse victim should ever have to face their abuser at court | Can't see this properly? Read it online.
NSPCC. Cruelty to children must stop. FULL STOP.
Sign our petition and protect children like Iris*

Last year nearly all of the 21,000 children who gave evidence had to do so from a court building. Having to come face-to-face with their abusers at court left children like Iris feeling frightened and intimidated.

That’s why we’re asking you to sign our #OrderInCourt e-petition and help us make sure no child abuse victim should ever have to go through the same trauma.

We’re calling for the Government to ensure there is at least one remote site in each region in England and Wales, so children like Iris can give their evidence away from court.
Order in CourtOrder in Courtshadow
What you can do?

Please take action now by signing the e-petition and sharing it with your contacts. Help us reach 21,000 signatures – one for every child who gives evidence in court each year – by September 5thwhen we take the petition to Downing Street.

By acting together, we could persuade the government to make changes to the justice system and win the fight to protect child witnesses.

You can stay up-to-date with the campaign via our website, and visit our blog for further news and views.

Thank you,

Re-Naming of Joint Assessment Family Framework (JAFF)

What are your suggestions?  Join the debate via Facebook page:  www.facebook.com/PAVOCYPF

We have made some suggestions with a rationale:

Child & Family Action Plan
Child & Family Action Team
Child & Family Agent

Feed in your comments here or on Facebook or email in PAVO, as well as feeding into the survey.

CYPP are currently carrying out a review of the Joint Assessment Family Framework title and branding to help recognise the elements of the service more clearly, and to develop and even stronger branding.

We have set up an online survey that can be accessed by following the link at the bottom of this page, and the detail below is what you will find on the survey. It will take you a short amount of time to complete, just a few minutes, but your views and contribution in filling out the survey will help immensely.

We support families in early interventions. We create a virtual “team to work with families and their children, meeting with them regularly until there is no longer a need to do so. Our recent review recommended a name change and we have recently been  given agreement by Welsh Government to change our title from Joint Assessment Family Framework ( JAFF) to Team Around the Family (TAF).

Assessment
The first stage in the TAF process is to assess the needs, both of the child and the family.  We have introduced a two-stage assessment to do this. Firstly the Child and the Family issues
It is important that we do not forget to listen to the voice of the child.
Which of the 3 titles here, do you think would best describe this assessment?
  1. Joint Assessment Family Framework.
  2. Team Around the Family Assessment.
  3. Child and Family Assessment.
Any other suggestions?
Panel
The second stage of offering help is to have a brief discussion at a monthly pre-arranged meeting with a range of managers of local services.  Each of these services may have something to offer the child, young person and their family.  This panel nominates the agencies which will make up the Team around the Family, if the family members accept them. Until now these meetings have been called, “Local Resource Solution Panels”.
Which of these titles do you think would be most meaningful to families and workers alike?
  1. Team Around the Family Panel (TAF Panel)
  1. Team Around the Family Forum ( TAF Forum)
  2. Local resource Solution Panel (LRSP)
Any other suggestions?
Lead Practitioner
Key to the TAF model working well is the role of a nominated lead person who;
·         Acts as the main point of communication with the family
·         Chairs each TAF meeting
·         Ensures the family is fully included
·         Ensures that the child’s needs are held at the centre of each discussion.
We would welcome suggestions about the title given to this key person.  Do any of the 3 suggested titles below seem to describe the role or do you have any different suggestions to add?
  1. Lead Practitioner
  2. Key Worker
  3. Family Contact
Any other suggestions?

One Powys Plan - POSTER

One Powys Plan 2014 – 2017
A plan for change between all partners in the Powys Local Service Board

You can download the One Powys Plan Poster which highlights the top priorities that public services will be working on together.

Please make sure that everyone in your organisation is aware of this plan and the priorities.

Joint the debate on FACEBOOK

Join in the debate on FACEBOOK Powys Association of Voluntary Organisations/CYPF about

what we should call the Joint Assessment Family Framework.

What should we call the Common Assessment Framework?

What should we call the Local Resource Solution Panel?

What should we call the Team Around the Family?

Please discuss via the FACEBOOK page and PAVO representatives can take your views
to a meeting coming up at the end of September.

Do you have any ideas to make the language more accessible for families, children and
young people to understand the support that is available for them?
