Debate Series for the General Election in Brecon & Radnor

The Globe at Hay is hosting a debate series with representatives from the parties running in General Election for Brecon &Radnor, could be a good opportunity to hold representatives to account, and raise issues that need changing!! 

The debates will run on the first 3 Thursdays of April & are focussed on a specific topic -

The Economy,

Health & Education, 

and Energy respectively.

Visit to Adventure Playgrounds in North Wales

                                                                                                       VISIT TO ADVENTURE PLAYGROUNDS IN NORTH WALES

Coach trip to visit 3 Adventure playgrounds in Wrexham, Tuesday 20^th May 2014

As part of an ongoing commitment to increasing, developing and sustaining quality play opportunities for all children and young people within Powys, you are cordially invited to join us on a visit to one of the most innovative, play friendly counties in Wales. We will be traveling, by coach, to Wrexham to meet the Local Authority Play Development Officer Mike Barclay and other key play staff members, and to visit three ground-breaking Adventure Playgrounds: The Venture which has been going for 30 years, Gwenfro which is smaller and established around 10 years ago, and The Land in Plas Madoc established last year. (Check out a videoforf The Land here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-24751534)

An adventure playground is a place where children can build dens or treehouses, make campfires, dig gardens, stage water fights, play in the mud and rain. It is a place that children should be able to call their own - where they can direct their own play, be spontaneous, loud, dirty, messy, silly, and where they can test themselves out against their environment and other people. Wrexham have fully embraced this philosophy and are exemplar at supporting each child’s right to play. 

Each Adventure Playground is different and each one raises some interesting discussion points on different ways of providing for play, managing risk and tackling issues of health and safety. It is widely documented that areas with increased play opportunities benefit from a reduction in crimes rates, higher community morale and increased standards of physical health and emotional wellbeing.

The visit is an opportunity for members of the Powys community to see first-hand how this type of play provision is managed and the possibilities that can be created around diverse Open Access play.

• The Coach will leave Ysgol Trefonnen, Llandrindod Wells at 7.45am
• We will make a stop in Newtown Coach Station near Radio Harfen at approximately 8.30. Please let us know if you wish to get on the bus here
• 10.00-11.00 Arrive at The Venture and meet with Mike Barclay and Venture staff Millie or Jay
• 11.00-12.00 Travel a short distance across Wrexham to Gwenfro Valley to meet with Colin
• 12.00-1.00 Pub lunch and discussion with Wrexham staff members (We are, unfortunately, not able to include lunch in the day, please bring money for pub lunch or a packed lunch)
• 1.30-2.30 Travel to Plas Madoc (The Land) to meet with Claire

We would need to be out of the last setting by 3ish as that is when the children arrive and staff are busy. We will arrive back in Llandrindod at approximately 5.15pm

Play Radnor: Under 5s Children's Christmas Discos!!!!

Play Radnor are hosting some festive discos in December and we would like to invite the children of all of your organisations and schools to come.

The bookings we have made so far are as follows:

• Monday 16th December at 1.30pm until 3pm at Presteigne Memorial Hall. Under 5s only.
• Thursday 19th December at 1.30pm until 3pm at Llandrindod Dance Centre. Under 5s only.
• Thursday 19th December at 4pm until 5.30pm at Llandrindod Dance Centre. 6-11s only.

We are going to try and book some more discos in the area, I will email you all with details as and when. 

Posters for the above events and would be very grateful if you could display one or two within the organisation.

Play Radnor: Play Portal

Play Radnor are a registered charity that provide play opportunities and resources to children and young people around Radnorshire. 

We currently have a wealth of toys, play equipment and craft materials which we are looking to make more accessible to communities and families in and around Radnorshire.

In order to do this we are looking for centres who would be willing to host a Play Portal. 

A Play Portal can be a space in a shed, a cupboard or even a box in which we can store toys and equipment, which are then available for hire or purchase at low cost by groups and individuals. Hosting a Portal is an opportunity for libraries, community centres and other community spaces to actively support play in their local area at no additional cost to themselves.

Being a host would entail storing toys and resources, renting them out on request and taking payment. We don't envisage a Portal to be time consuming.

Our Toy Librarian will visit at least once a month to restock and rotate toys and equipment, they will be responsible for all quality control and to deal with any queries. Play Radnor will fully support all Play Portals and hosts.

JOB VACANCIES: Holiday Activities Club Leader/Principle Playworker

Deputy Playworker

Assistant Playworkers x 2

Play Radnor wish to appoint the following:

Job title: Holiday Activities Club Leader/Principle Playworker 

Place of work: Play Radnor, Trefonnen Community Centre.

Salary: £12 per hour paid monthly in arrears directly into the
employee’s bank account or by cheque by the last
working day of each month.

Term of Employment: Immediate start, working until the end of the school
holidays 2nd September 2013

Hours of work: Initially 3hrs wk in preparation for project. From 22nd
July 9 hrs week to cover sessions Mon, Wed and Fri
9.30am-12.30pm

Qualifications: Must hold a relevant level 3 qualification

Experience: Must have experience in Play/childcare work or related
setting.

Must have experience in managing people.

Main Responsibilities:

The HAC Leader is responsible for co-ordinating the day to day organisation and
running of the |Holiday Activities Club. The HAC Leader reports to the Manager
at Play Radnor and is the link between the Staff, Service Users, and Project
Volunteers. The Manager shall provide advice, support and guidance to the HAC
Leader


Job title: Deputy Playworker 

Place of work: Play Radnor, Trefonnen Community Centre.


Salary: £10 per hour paid monthly in arrears directly into the
employee’s bank account or by cheque by the last
working day of each month.

Term of Employment: Mon 15th July – Wed 4th Sept 2013

Hours of work: Initially 3hrs wk in preparation for project. From 22nd
July 9 hrs week to cover sessions Mon, Wed and Fri
9.30am-12.30pm

Qualifications: Level 2 relevant qualification

Experience: Must have experience in Play/childcare work or related
setting. Experience of managing people desirable

Main Responsibilities:

The Deputy Playworker is responsible for supporting the Principle Playworker in
co-ordinating the day to day organisation and running of the Holiday Activities
Club. The Deputy Playworker reports to the Principle Playworker. The Managerat
Play Radnor shall also provide advice, support and guidance to the Deputy
Playworker


Job title: Assistant Playworker X2 

Place of work: Play Radnor, Trefonnen Community Centre.

Salary: £9 per hour paid monthly in arrears directly into the
employee’s bank account or by cheque by the last
working day of each month.

Term of Employment: Mon 22nd July – Fri 30th Aug 2013

Hours of work: 9 hrs week Mon, Wed and Fri mornings 9.30-12.30

Qualifications: level 2 relevant qualification desirable

Experience: Must have experience in Play/childcare work or related
setting.

Main Responsibilities:

The Play Assistant will be required to assist the running of an Inclusive Holiday
Activities Club .

All positions will be based at Ysgol Trefonnen in Llandrindod Wells
All positions are are subject to DBS checks.

Play Radnor are looking for organisations & individuals to help out with their Summer Holiday Activities.  Anyone with an interest, hobby, passion or skill to pass on and share can help out.  There are also opportunities to just volunteer and work with children.
