Renewed call for a 20mph speed limit in Wales John Griffiths AM has reopened the discussion about introducing 20mph speed limit zones in Wales. A roundtable event was held at the Senedd to bring together key stakeholders to progress the call to make 20mph the default speed limit in residential areas.
National Survey for Wales: key findings on play The Welsh Government has published The National Survey of Wales’ key findings from 2017 – 18 on parental satisfaction with places for children and young people to play or meet up, as well as satisfaction with clubs and organised activities.
New campaign: ‘Parenting. Give it time’ The Welsh Government has launched the ‘Parenting. Give it time’ campaign to promote positive parenting techniques in managing difficult behaviour and to help parents develop a good relationship with their children. The campaign will be followed by the introduction of legislation to ban the physical punishment of children in Wales
Mental health benefits of outdoor play and learning Report published by Learning through Landscapes and Project Dirt shows mental health and happiness benefits of outdoor play and learning. However, despite the clear benefits, only 32 percent of schools surveyed spent between an hour and an hour and a half on outdoor play, and just 12 percent provided outdoor lessons every day.
UK Government urged to invest in children’s services Over 120 children's organisations have united to urge the UK Government to stop ‘ignoring children’ and increase investment in services and support for children. In an open letter to the Prime Minister and Chancellor, the coalition highlights the challanges facing the services and says that ‘services and support that children rely on are at breaking point.'
The Play Cycle research: a survey for childcare workers Dr Pete King from Swansea University and Dr Shelly Newstead from University College London are seeking childcare workers to take part in a survey to inform research on the Play Cycle. The survey is open to anyone over the age of 18 currently working with children. The closing date to complete the survey is 21 December 2018.
Reminder: register to vote in Welsh Youth Parliament election To be eligible to vote in the forthcoming Welsh Youth Parliament election, young people need to register online by 18 November 2018. The election will take place between 5 and 25 November 2018.

PETC Wales representatives The Playwork Education and Training Council for Wales (PETC Wales) is seeking expressions of interest for representatives who are playwork employers. PETC Wales is particularly interested in representation from community based playwork provision. The closing date for expressing an interest is 20 November 2018.
Young Wales Board members Young Wales is recruiting six new members, aged 11 to 18, to join its Project Board. Becoming a Board member is an opportunity to engage in work that directly affects the lives of young people in Wales. The closing date for applications is 26 November 2018.

Funding
Youth Clubs Grants Variety, the children’s charity, offers grants of £250 to £600 to youth organisations affiliated with either Ambition, UK Youth or Association of Boys and Girls Clubs. The grants can be used to buy equipment for children and young people from 8 to 18 years old.
Warbutons Community Groups Small community grants of up to £250 are available for projects, activities and organisations that support families in England, Scotland and Wales. Warbutons is interested in funding projects which work with those who need support and families facing challenges.
Deadline for applications: 15 November 2018
Loans for community spaces The Co-op Foundation is offering loans of up to £50,000 for organisations that aim to improve community spaces. Organisations based in more deprived areas might also be eligible for grant funding alongside a loan. You'll be eligible for the loan if your organisation is run for the benefit of the community.

What Now? Children’s Commissioner for Wales surveySally Holland wants to hear your views on what she can do to tackle the issues facing children and young people in Wales. Online surveys have been developed to collect the views of children, young people, parents, carers and anyone who works with children and young people. The closing date to complete the survey is 11 November 2018. Youth Work NOS CLD Standards Scotland is seeking the views of practitioners, volunteers, employer organisations and stakeholders from across the UK on the suitability of the Youth Work National Occupational Standards (YWNOS). By completing the online survey, you will help inform CLD Standards Scotland on the suitability of the current functional map for youth work.

Library
The Play Wales Library is based in our office in Cardiff Bay. We also have a smaller collection of books and other resources relating to children and play based in Glyndŵr University library in Wrexham.
It is the most comprehensive collection of books on children's play and play provision in Wales. It is an essential resource for playworkers, teachers, trainers, students and anyone with an interest in children's play.
We hold current and out-of-print material on a wide range of topics related to children and play - from play theory and child development, to building a tree house.
Visitors and small groups of students are very welcome - please contact our Communications Team to arrange a visit and we will be happy to help you. There is quiet space to study and browse. We have photocopying facilities that operate within copyright law. At present, we are unable to lend books.

Cynhaliwyd digwyddiad bwrdd crwn yn y Senedd gan ddod â rhanddeiliaid allweddol ynghyd i symud ymlaen â’r galw i wneud 20mya yn gyfyngiad cyflymder diofyn mewn ardaeloedd preswyl.
Arolwg Cenedlaethol Cymru: prif ganfyddiadau ar chwarae Mae Llywodraeth Cymru wedi cyhoeddi prif ganfyddiadau Arolwg Cenedlaethol Cymru 2017 – 18 ar foddhad rhieni gyda mannau i blant a phobl ifanc chwarae neu gwrdd, yn ogystal â bodlonrwydd â chlybiau a gweithgareddau wedi eu trefnu.
Ymgyrch newydd: ‘Magu Plant. Rhowch amser iddo' Mae Llywodraeth Cymru wedi lansio ymgyrch ‘Magu Plant. Rhowch amser iddo’ i hyrwyddo technegau magu plant cadarnhaol wrth reoli ymddygiad anodd ac i helpu rhieni i ddatblygu perthynas dda gyda'u plant.
