Building a Co-operative Country Conference - June 26th.

What are some of the main issues
posing challenges to young people today?

Would you count housing, education, wellbeing, employment and the environment among them? If you do, and want to find out how co-operatives and mutuals can help address these issues, come to the Building A Co-operative Country conference.

The event is being held at Urdd Gobaith Cymru, Cardiff Bay, on Tuesday 26th June. A number of inspirational young people will be joining us as keynote speakers on the day including Huw Richards and Polly Robbins, while others will feature in our interactive workshops.

The event is for:

  • Young people who are already involved in the co-ops and mutuals sector in some way, or benefiting from such a business or organisation.
  • Young people that have a wider interest in this area of work, possibly because they are studying relevant issues or want to work for a co-op or mutual in the future.
  • Co-op, mutual and other organisations that support young people.
  • People and organisations that could potentially join the membership of the Mutuals Alliance as a result of the event.
Details of the conference programme will be published at wales.coop as they become available. We’ll also be tweeting about the event from @WalesCoopCentre, using the hashtag #BACC18.

The conference is being organised on behalf of the Mutuals Alliance and is sponsored by Arup Group, Cartrefi Cymru, Merthyr Valleys Homes, the Co-operative Group, Wales Co-operative Centre, Co-op Party and ProMo Cymru.

The Mutuals Alliance brings together leading co-operative and mutual organisations across Wales. It works towards growing the sector in Wales and creating a greater level of awareness about mutuals and the benefits they bring.

You can choose to attend up to two out of five workshop options at the conference. The sessions will be run twice, either side of lunch, and will be an hour long in duration. Please make us aware of your workshop choices when booking.

Workshop 1 – Housing – Find out how housing co-ops are helping young people through significant challenges, while equipping them with essential life skills
Workshop 2 – Education – Explore the ways in which the Welsh Bacc, and other educational opportunities, can help schoolchildren gain a better understanding of co-operatives
Workshop 3 – Environment – Renewable energy and recycling projects are getting more and more young people involved, to help them learn how green issues can be addressed through co-ops
Workshop 4 – Employment and Skills – In times of zero hours contracts and students graduating with high levels of debt, find out how co-ops can provide the solution to youth unemployment and skills
Workshop 5 – Wellbeing – Find out more about the links between the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act and co-ops, and the subsequent link between co-ops and young people

Make sure you attend the biggest co-operative conference in Wales and lend your voice to the debate.
