FREE woodland training course

I am Anna Georgiou, the newly appointed Elan Links Officer for Volunteering and Training on the Tir Coed LEAF project: Learning to Enable Achievement and Fulfilment. After a successful pilot in 2017, we are happy to announce the launch of the LEAF project kindly funded by various organisations.

The project will run for five years in the Elan Valley, Powys and will create opportunities for people to access bespoke well-being woodland activities, woodland skills training courses, week-long intensive training in sector specific activities, mentoring, work placements and support for fledgling woodland enterprises. The project is designed to enable deep rooted change in each person’s life, reaping the benefits of the therapeutic and energising woodland environment.

We are currently inviting referrals for the following course. Participants are able to self-refer. Referrals can be made by completing the attached form and returning to powys@tircoed.org.uk or by phoning 01970 6363909 or 01597 811527

From the 8th February 2018 we are offering a 12 week accredited course in sustainable woodland management. This will run two days a week (Thursdays and Fridays) and be based in the woodlands in the Elan Valley. You will have the opportunity to undertake a variety of woodland management tasks and also create a wooden construction, for example a boardwalk or bridge. Through the course, participants will work towards Agored Cymru credits and will develop a host of new skills and experience.

Throughout the course, participants will be offered support to overcome the barriers that hamper their ability to access opportunities, be they personal, social or practical. They will also be offered bespoke support to progress beyond the course. This will develop the skills and aspirations of the individual, and may include further training, volunteering or employment.

Places on the course will be given to participants who have any of a wide range of additional needs. If you know someone who would benefit from the course or would like more information about the LEAF project please get in touch.

There will be other courses running in the Elan Valley over the life of the five year project to ensure as many beneficiaries as possible.
