17 December 2018 Hello and welcome to the last WCVA Newsletter of 2018! It's been a whirlwind year, and despite some challenges across the sector we're incredibly proud of everyone's work over 2018. We hope that we can all band together over the coming year to help achieve our shared vision of a thriving third sector in Wales, improving wellbeing for all. A brand new funding website has been launched by Third Sector Support Wales to help third sector organisations find funding more easily. The free database hosts a range of different funding options - with a search facility to help you to quickly and effectively identify relevant sources of funding. The site also includes news items and case studies, as well as links to support, information and guidance which will ensure that you're equipped with all the tools needed to make good funding applications. Volunteering Using the Volunteering Wales website - webinar A series of webinars has been scheduled throughout the year to provide training and support for those who are using the Volunteering Wales volunteering platform. New report highlights reading as a powerful tool to combat loneliness The Reading Agency commissioned leading independent think tank Demos to produce ‘A Society of Readers’, a report which predicts that by 2030 loneliness in the UK will reach epic proportions, with seven million people experiencing loneliness in the over-60 age group alone. Kellie’s volunteer story Kellie started with Green Days through Treforest Learning Curve. When she first came to one of our activities she lacked self-confidence and made it quite clear to staff that she definitely wouldn’t be able to do any of the things we might ask her to do. To her intense surprise and pleasure she quickly proved herself wrong!

Christmas shopping with a conscience In this blog, Simon Dowling of WCVA provides some ethical relief from the material overload of shopping for your loved ones over the festive period.

Funding New Funding Search Platform for the Third Sector in Wales New funding website launched by Third Sector Support Wales to help third sector organisations find funding. A B Charitable Trust Funding of up to £20,000 is available to support charities working where human dignity is imperilled and where there are opportunities for human dignity to be affirmed. Greggs Foundation’s Local Community Projects Fund Funding of up to £2,000 is available for groups to deliver projects or provide equipment to people in need at the heart of their local communities. EU Settlement Scheme – Grant funding available for the third sector The Home Office has recently announced the launch of a £9 million fund, for the third sector, to help vulnerable or at-risk EU citizens needing additional support when applying for the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS).
