Aim:
The relationship between client and support worker is important and is finely balanced between being overly friendly to being distanced. This course enables support workers to explore relationships and to develop appropriate professional boundaries.
The course is designed to assist those who have regular contact with clients to develop and explore their relationships whilst observing professional boundaries.
Key Learning Outcomes:
■ Explored definition of personal and professional boundaries including the relevance of legislation, standards and codes of practice
■ An understanding of the role of the support worker
■ Able to recognise the dangers inherent in the creation of personal relationships
■ Be fully aware of the extent of the responsibility works have towards their clients
■ Be aware of the value of continuous situational risk assessment
■ Able to separate workplace and personal feelings
■ An understanding of how to empower tenants with these skills
■ Able to acknowledge the potential danger of becoming emotionally involved with clients’ problems and take action to prevent emotional involvement
