Child Sexual Abuse - Stop it Now! Free Training - book quickly 6th December

CSA Awareness (Professionals) is being held on 6^th December 2018, Media Resource Centre, Oxford Road, Llandrindod Wells, 09.30-12.30

Learning Outcomes

The session will:

•       Raise awareness of child sexual abuse including where the risks lie

•       Recognise the signs of child sexual abuse in children including verbal and non-verbal indicators

•       Recognise the warning signs an adult who has harmful intentions may display

•       Take preventative measures and report concerns before a disclosure is made, acknowledging that most children do not disclose abuse

•       Respond effectively and appropriately when a disclosure is made, including reporting to the relevant authorities

•       Help professionals and families develop and implement family safety plans

 A course will also be run for Parents/Carers in January so please advertise this to families you work with.

The announcement of the elected 60 Welsh Youth Parliament Members will be made by the Presiding Officer, Elin Jones AM, during Plenary at 13:30 on 05 December 2018. You can watch this live, or via playback, on www.senedd.tv. We will also be posting the information live on our social media channels.

Issues Survey

During the Voter Registration and Election period, we have been asking young people across Wales what issues matter most to them and we have collected over 2,000 issues. We have grouped them under specific categories and now we need help from young people to choose which issues they believe the Welsh Youth Parliament should be discussing.

The survey will be closing on Wednesday 16 January, so if you can promote and encourage young people to participate, that would be brilliant. The survey has been shared via all our social media channels as well.

WCVA Update - 3 December 2018

03 December 2018 Hello and welcome to this week's newsletter. After trawling through all your brilliant applications, the panel selected Isla Horton, head of community gardening organisation Grow Cardiff, as the second ever winner of the Walter Dickie Leadership Bursary! The bursary was presented to Isla at WCVA's Annual General Meeting at the Wales Millennium Centre on 22 November. Isla is going to use the £2,500 to further her knowledge of community gardening by visiting some innovative schemes on the other side of the globe… Do you think your organisation and the wider third sector will thrive after Brexit - or will it be a struggle to survive? WCVA is looking to hear members' views on Brexit to help shape and influence our activity over the coming year. Funding New round of Tampon Tax Fund now available A total of £15 million is available to charities working with vulnerable women and girls. The D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust Funding is available for registered Charities operating in the UK in the fields of the advancement of the arts, health and medical welfare and environmental protection or improvement. Sport Wales Development Grants Funding is available to Sports Clubs or Associations, Youth Clubs and Community Groups who are looking to establish a new team, develop new training facilities or purchase much needed equipment. Majority feel uninvolved in local authority decision-making The National Survey for Wales 17-18 has revealed several key findings about people’s views of their local authority.

Do you have a volunteer in your organisation or community that makes a real difference?

Nominations can be for -

• Individuals of any age
• Groups - two or more volunteers in a group that carry out a task, activity or project. The group can either be a) volunteers or b) a group of volunteers within an organisation with paid staff. For organisations with paid staff, the nomination must be for the group of volunteers not the organisation.

Closing date 1st  February 2019......let's get nominating and celebrate the wonderful volunteers in Powys.

News from Wales PPA now Early Wales!

Dear Colleague,

We are excited to share with you the news that we have changed our name from Wales Pre-school Providers Association to Early Years Wales. The Trustees have decided that the new name better reflects what we do and acknowledges the evolution of the organisation and its activities since we first started our work in the early 1960’s. Our head office and regional teams are all enthusiastic about the change especially as we can now share the news with you.

This change will not affect our current activities or staffing structure and your contacts in Early Years Wales will stay the same.

Over the coming months, you will see that there are some changes to our branding, but we will keep you informed of any that may affect you such as the new e-mail addresses. But in the meantime, please just contact us using the usual details.

Please feel free to share this e-mail with colleagues and help us to ensure that we spread our news about Early Years Wales to as many people as possible.

Austin and Hope Pilkington Trust Funding

The Austin and Hope Pilkington Trust have just announced a new round of funding for 2019 which will focus on organisations working with children and young people.

They will fund organisations working to address:

• child exploitation
• mentoring and support
• clubs and activities

They will prioritise awarding grants to projects that address mental health.

WCVA Update - 29 November 2018

This week's updates from WCVA 26 November 2018 Hello and welcome to this week's newsletter At WCVA we are focused on making a difference, and love sharing what we're doing to help us achieve our vision of a thriving third sector in Wales. Our Annual Report for 2017-18 was launched at our Annual General Meeting and Lecture last week, and is now available to read on our website or to watch as an animated summary. Please have a look and let us know what you think! International Volunteers Day falls annually on 5 December and is a great chance to celebrate the impact and values of volunteering worldwide. The theme this year is Building Resilient Communities ( a theme close to our hearts) with a special focus on local community volunteers - who contribute to making their communities more resilient against natural disasters, economic stresses and political shocks.  If you have stories to share we will be happy to share them, or why not tweet our volunteering team @VolWales using #IVD2018 #resilientcommunities. Third sector general Meet the innovators set to improve Welsh public services Grants totalling £150,000 have been awarded to seven organisations in Wales through Innovate to Save. Funding Landfill Disposals Tax Community Scheme (LDTCS) – Nationally Significant Project WCVA is delighted to announce the launch of the Nationally Significant Grant for the Landfill Disposals Community Scheme as of Monday 26th November. Masonic Charitable Foundation Later Life Inclusion Grants Local and national charities supporting disadvantaged and vulnerable older people over 50 years old can apply for funding, with the next rounds of funding opening in 2019. Funding available for hospices A total of £300,000 is available to develop bereavement support for underrepresented local people. Austin and Hope Pilkington Trust funding for 2019 The 2019 round of funding will focus on organisations working with children and young people.
