Welsh Government's Consultation on Changes to the Registration of Childcare Provision in Wales
PAVO is about to draft a response for Welsh Government's Consultation on "Changes to the Registration of Childcare Provision in Wales". What do you think about this? See below the main changes:
The key aims of the proposed changes are to ensure:
PROPORTIONALITY; taking into account the needs & ages of children.
QUALITY; of care in all provision for all children.
SAFETY; all children are cared for in safe & secure places.
Compulsory registration required for childcare providers upto ages of 16 or 17 for disabled young people.
LESS THAN 2 HOURS
No plans to change the exception currently in place for childcare operating less than 2 hours. But what do you think?
MULTIPLE PREMISES
Should childcare providers operating across more than one
setting be allowed to register multiple premises in a single registration process?

Welsh Government Consultation: Changes to the registration of childcare provision in Wales
Changes to the registration of childcare provision in Wales
This consultation sets out proposals to extend the regulation of childcare.
Start of consultation:16/03/2015
End of consultation:05/06/2015
Currently childcare providers are only required to register if they care for children under the age of 8. We propose changes to require childcare providers to register if caring for children under the age of 16, or 17 if disabled.
Childcare provision plays a crucial role in the lives of Welsh families by enabling parents and carers to access training and employment opportunities, which in turn can assist families in moving out of poverty. As well as supporting families, high quality childcare provision can also have a positive influence on a child's development and future attainment. By ensuring childcare provision is subject to appropriate and proportionate regulation and registration requirements, critical assurances around the safety and quality of the care children receive are provided.
