Dry January Campaign & Alcohol Brief Intervention Training Courses Available.

Dry January Campaign Starts

Alcohol Brief Intervention Training Course being run throughout Powys:

The training is a two hour session which is free of charge and supports attendees to:
·         Understand the problem of alcohol in Wales
·         Indentify hazardous and harmful drinkers
·         Offer evidence based support to drinkers
·         Influence behaviour change
·         Be more confident in tackling this difficult topic
·         Make a positive impact upon health in Wales
Training Dates:

  • 10 am - 12 noon, 13th January (South Powys - venue TBC)

  • 2.30 – 4.30, 16th January (Mid Powys - venue TBC)

  • 10 – 12 noon, 16th January (North Powys - venue TBC)

Dry January National Campaign

Dry January is a national campaign encouraging people to experience a month without alcohol, with nearly 4,500 people signing up last year. It aims to encourage people to experience a month without alcohol and ultimately moderate drinking habits.  

We hope you will join us in supporting this campaign by raising awareness of the campaign amongst the general public and staff groups.   There are display posters and leaflet available which can be aimed at the general public and in any staff rooms.  




Please display the posters and leaflets where the general public may see it and also in any staff rooms.  If you are unable to download these or would like more information or any of the following materials please let me know:

Dry January Campaign

Kaleidoscope James Varty is  meeting with Nicola Gordon, Powys Public Health Team on Thursday 24th October, 12pm in Bronllys to discuss coordinating a ‘Dry January’ campaign across Powys. They will be looking to promote this in alcohol awareness week
 (18th to 24th November).

The aim of ‘Dry January’ is to encourage people to abstain from drinking alcohol for the month of January, and for us to promote / raise awareness of safer drinking at the same time. Participants can get sponsorship, with funds raised going to alcohol concern.  You can find out more here: www.dryjanuary.org.uk

Alcohol and Brief Intervention

A short, evidence-based, structured conversation about alcohol consumption with a client to motivate and
support the individual to think about and/or plan a change in their drinking behaviour in order to reduce their
consumption”

Key Learning Outcomes:
-significantly reduce the alcohol drinking levels of people who have been identified as drinking Hazardous
and Harmful amounts
- Provide a valuable framework to facilitate referral of cases of alcohol dependence to specialised services
