New info sheet – Play sufficiency in Wales

Wales is the first country in the world to legislate for children’s play through the Children and Families (Wales) Measure 2010. The Welsh Government ‘Play Sufficiency Duty’, as it has become known, places a duty on every local authority in Wales to assess for and provide sufficient play opportunities for children in their areas.

This information sheet provides a brief overview of the Play Sufficiency Duty and the assessment process that local authorities have to undertake. It also describes Welsh Government’s aim to create a play friendly country by providing time, space and permission for children to play.

The aim of this information sheet is to provide a better understanding about play sufficiency in Wales to those whose work isn’t directly involved with children’s play or who may not be familiar with the legislation.

Taflen wybodaeth newydd – Digonolrwydd chwarae yng Nghymru

Cymru yw’r wlad gyntaf yn y byd i ddeddfu ar chwarae plant trwy’r Mesur Plant a Theuluoedd (Cymru) 2010. Mae ‘Dyletswydd Digonolrwydd Chwarae’ Llywodraeth Cymru, fel y’i hadnabyddir bellach, yn gosod dyletswydd ar bob awdurdod lleol yng Nghymru i asesu a darparu cyfleoedd chwarae digonol i blant yn eu hardal.

Mae’r daflen wybodaeth hon yn cynnig trosolwg cryno o’r Dyletswydd Digonolrwydd Chwarae a’r broses asesu mae’n rhaid i awdurdodau lleol ei ymgymryd. Mae hefyd yn disgrifio nod Llywodraeth Cymru i greu gwlad chwarae-gyfeillgar trwy ddarparu amser, lle a chaniatâd i blant chwarae.

Mae’r daflen wybodaeth yn anelu i gynnig gwell dealltwriaeth am ddigonolrwydd chwarae yng Nghymru i’r rheiny lle nad yw eu gwaith yn ymwneud yn uniongyrchol â chwarae plant neu sydd ddim yn gyfarwydd â’r ddeddfwriaeth.

Physical Disabilities/Sensory Loss Conditions Survey - NOW LIVE

Powys County Council/Local Health Board: Consultation

Powys residents who have physical disabilities and/or sensory loss conditions and their families are being asked to take part in a survey to help shape the future of services provided for them.

A five year plan is being drawn up by Powys County Council and Powys Teaching Health Board to focus on key priorities and services for residents in the county.  A first draft is due to be drawn up by December and views given in this pre-consultation survey will help shape and feed into this.

The survey is available on line at www.powys.gov.uk/haveyoursay until 16 November. Click on the title under the “pre-consultation” tab.  Arrangements have also been put in place with Disability Powys for anyone with a visual impairment to do the survey over the telephone. The number to call is: 0800 988 1691.

A forum was established a few years ago by the Council and Powys Teaching Health Board to allow us to get a better understanding of the issues facing residents with physical disabilities and sensory loss.  It is co-chaired by two Powys residents who continue to experience the challenges of living with specific conditions.

Cllr Stephen Hayes, Cabinet Member for Adults Services said:

“The forum has been instrumental in informing and shaping our thinking and understanding around the services people with physical disabilities and/or sensory loss access or need to access.

“Our five year plan will focus on such services and we would very much welcome any views and insights that individuals, families or professionals have about the draft priorities identified in the survey.  Issues such as having more choice and control and improving employment opportunities are just two of the priorities we’re keen to progress during the next five years.”

Please share the link to the survey with your networks.

NEW: PAVO Trustee Network

NEW: PAVO Trustee Network

2nd – 8th November 2015 is Trustees Week.

Trustees' Week is an annual event to showcase the great work that trustees do and highlight opportunities for people from all walks of life to get involved and make a difference.
The voluntary sector in Powys would come to a standstill without the support and hard work that trustees undertake, in order to enable groups and organisations to operate safely, efficiently and effectively.
Governance is an issue that affects any group, no matter what size it is.  PAVO along with the Charity Commission is wholly committed to championing good governance in the sector, and trustees play an enormous part in enabling this to happen.  In recognition of this, PAVO is setting up a Trustee Network in order to provide mutual learning and support to trustees of voluntary or community organisations operating within Powys (including charity trustees, management committee members and not-for-profit company directors).
The virtual network will ensure that members are kept up to date electronically with news, information, and developments in the field of governance and trusteeship.
The network will also:
  •  provide the opportunity for trustees to share learning and information about their experiences in fulfilling their governance roles
  •  provide a forum for determining the training and development needs of trustees.
  •  allow trustees the opportunity to be consulted and feedback on strategic policy developments.

The network will meet on an annual basis, so watch this space for the date of the first meeting.
We want as many trustees as possible to sign up to become a member of the network, so don’t delay, join today!
