Our comments covered some minor points about the use of some of the language used on the CAF form.
The main area which could be developed includes making sure that children, young people, parents/carers and those working (paid/unpaid) can fully understand what CAF is and how it can help them. We have suggested that the example used by Medway Children's Trust could be a good base to start with. You can see that website HERE
Families and small 3rd sector organisations need to clearly understand:
- WHEN CAF can be used
- HOW CAF can be used
- and Explain WHAT happens next.
A simple picture of the flow can also help some people to understand the whole process better.
If you have any further comments then please send them into the CYPP for consideration.
If you wish to have any further discussion around the CAF then please contact Yvonne at PAVO.
PAVO welcomes any comments about the new forms as part of this consultation.
Please could PAVO have any comment on any of these forms by Thursday 17th July 2014. This will then form a 3rd Sector Response into the CYPP.
Message from CYPP:
As part of our consultation process following the Joint Assessment Family Framework independent review, We are sending you the latest version of the draft of the revised CAF, which we hope you will have chance to read and make comments on. Along with this there are a few notes to hopefully help explain the revised CAF. Please do not use this document until we write to you again with the final version. It is planned that we will redesign the My World Triangle part of the form to reflect all the domains of care and development.
The Distance Travelled Tool (DTT) (required by Welsh Government to use to measure distance travelled) is also attached. A slightly older version is already in use, but hopefully reading both the DTT and Draft CAF will help make sense of the colours in the child part of the assessment. This will be used at the Initial TAF and the final TAF.
We will also be launching a new tool to help practitioners use the new CAF. They are a set cards which are not attached but are currently being redesigned. These cards will help the practitioner and family to reach an agreement about which score to use for each domain or statement. Please do not use this version either until we contact you to confirm the new forms are to be used.
We appreciate these documents are new to most and therefore we are happy to discuss and answer any queries, whilst your staff look at them. We can arrange times before or at the end of LRSPs to make it convenient for practitioners to go through the documents if needed.
