TRAINING PROGRAMME / RHAGLEN HYFFORDDI Introduction to Soft Outcomes and Distance Travelled Cliciwch yma am y Cymraeg  Introduction to Soft Outcomes and Distanced Travelled 08 July 2016, Cardiff Book online A one-day course The Social Services and Wellbeing Act (Wales) 2014 came into force on 6th April this year and places a new focus on services supporting the well-being outcomes of the people they are working with.  The term 'wellbeing' is used to refer to the quality of people's lives, and covers both subjective and objective aspects.  Subjective well-being focuses on soft outcomes such as how people are feeling and how they perceive their lives and personal goals.  Objective well-being focuses on the conditions which affect those feelings such as health or education which are easier to measure in hard outcomes. Both of these perspectives are valuable for understanding children's well-being.  This course is relevant for managers and practitioners who wish to demonstrate that their intervention has made a difference to outcomes for people they work with.  Budgets are tight and all organisations need to consider economy and efficiency, but it is important to keep a focus on the effectiveness of services. This course will look at measuring the soft outcomes that your intervention has achieved for the people you work with. Participants will explore a range of methods that can be used with all groups - from children and young people to adults. The course will include: Clarification of the terminology used when evaluating the impact of your services An exploration of why you need to measure qualitative information and how to do it Considering what soft outcomes are relevant to your setting Exploring a range of methods for measuring soft outcomes How to assess the distance travelled by users of your service Using information on outcomes to improve service delivery About the Trainer Claire Sharp has worked with children and young people, in the voluntary and statutory sector, for over twenty years and currently works as Children in Wales' Training Officer. Claire spent many years working in the field of domestic abuse, directly supporting children and young people in refuges and in the community, before moving on to manage Children's Services at Welsh Women's Aid. She has an ongoing interest in encouraging education and learning, in its broadest sense, having worked both as a primary teacher and in the supervision and assessment of student social workers in child and family teams. Claire now trains practitioners from a variety of services, on a wide range of issues, including children's rights and child protection. Claire has also delivered Early Support training, a programme aimed to improve recognition and support for disabled children and their families through a multi-agency approach with the child at the centre. Claire is a volunteer with UCAN Productions, a performance and creative arts co-operative for blind and partially sighted children, young people and their friends, supporting the children to have opportunities to play and socialise and develop skills and confidence.
