Awareness Session Programmes

Victim Support Cymru has been commissioned by the Welsh Government as the National Report and Support Centre for Hate Crime and Hate Incidents in Wales.
The National Service is set out in four categories:
1.      The National Third Party Reporting Centre for Hate Crimes and Incidents in Wales
2.      The Official Support provider for ALL Victims of Hate Crimes and Incidents in Wales
3.      To increase reporting of Hate Crimes and Hate Incidents in Wales
4.      To raise awareness of Hate Crimes and Hate Incidents in Wales
The data held by Victim Support Cymru feeds the Welsh Government Framework for Tackling Hate Crime, the All Wales Hate Crime Criminal Justice Board, the four Police Forces in Wales and the Local Authorities.
The Service is managed by Gareth Cuerden, All Wales Hate Crime Manager who can be contacted by email: Gareth.Cuerden@victimsupport.org.uk who will be able to inform you who your local Victim Support Hate Crime Caseworker is in addition to assisting you with local approaches to tackling hate crimes / incidents and increasing reporting.

2 Hour Awareness Session
The 2 hour briefing session is focussed on increasing a participant’s knowledge of the protected groups of hate crime to a level where they would be more aware and confident to report the matter; through understanding some of the barriers faced by victims.
As with the 1 hour workshop available, the session looks at the definitions of the protected groups covered by the hate crime legislation and the definition of a hate crime, but goes into further details about the issues / barriers or challenges faced by those groups.
There is a greater emphasis on Mate Crime and assisting participants develop a few new skills when working with victims who have a learning difficulty, so that the victim’s voice is heard.
The session combines exercises from the 1 hour session available, in addition to other practical learning methods, to stimulate debate and discussion amongst small groups. The session also gives details of what support is offered through the Victim Support National Hate Crime Service, the process and timescales.
Learning outcomes:
·         A basic understanding of the protected groups covered by hate crime legislation
·         Greater awareness of Disability Hate Crime and Gender Transitioning
·         Awareness of the Section 146 (Criminal Justice Act 2003)
·         An observed awareness of the impact of hate crime for a victim and society
·         A greater awareness of the barriers to reporting hate crime and ways to increase reporting
·         Knowledge of the support available and their role within the process
 Pre-attendance requirements:
·         If an e-learning corporate session is available to staff, make participants aware of the internal training and ask them to complete the module prior to attending the session

Resources and information about hate crime and the National Service can be obtained by visiting:
To book a session please contact Gareth Cuerden directly, or contact your Local Government Community Cohesion Officer to arrange the session on your behalf.
We recommend due to the group activities contained within the session that no more than 18 delegates attend the awareness programme; and no less than 8 delegates attend.
The sessions are delivered by Victim Support Hate Crime Staff or Volunteers operating in Wales and as such the sessions are not accredited and the learning outcomes may differ depending on the operational experience and background of the facilitator.
The facilitators are not necessarily trainers, but are actively working in the Hate Crime sector, supporting victims of hate crime and hate incidents; and have an in-depth  understanding to the issues victims face regarding hate crimes and hate incidents in Wales.

Sesiwn Ymwybyddiaeth 2 awr
Mae'r sesiwn wybodaeth 2 awr yn canolbwyntio ar gynyddu gwybodaeth cyfranogwr am y grwpiau a amddiffynnir o droseddau casineb hyd at lefel lle y byddent yn fwy ymwybodol a hyderus i adrodd am y mater; trwy ddeall rhai o'r rhwystrau a wynebir gan ddioddefwyr.
Yn yr un modd â'r gweithdy 1 awr sydd ar gael, mae'r sesiwn yn edrych ar ddiffiniadau'r grwpiau a amddiffynnir sy'n cael eu cynnwys dan ddeddfwriaeth troseddau casineb a diffiniad troseddau casineb, ond mae'n rhoi rhagor o fanylion am y problemau / rhwystrau neu'r heriau a wynebir gan y grwpiau hynny.
Mae mwy o bwyslais ar Droseddau Cyfeillio a chynorthwyo cyfranogwyr i ddatblygu rhywfaint o sgiliau newydd wrth weithio gyda dioddefwyr a chanddynt anawsterau dysgu, er mwyn i lais y dioddefwr gael ei glywed.
Mae'r sesiwn yn cyfuno ymarferion o'r sesiwn 1 awr sydd ar gael, yn ogystal â dulliau dysgu ymarferol eraill, i ysgogi dadl a thrafodaeth rhwng grwpiau bach. Mae'r sesiwn hefyd yn rhoi manylion yr hyn a  gynigir trwy Wasanaeth Troseddau Casineb Cenedlaethol Cymorth i Ddioddefwyr, y broses a'r amserlenni.
Deilliannau Dysgu:
·         Dealltwriaeth sylfaenol o'r grwpiau a amddiffynnir sy'n cael eu cynnwys dan ddeddfwriaeth troseddau casineb
·         Mwy o ymwybyddiaeth o Drosedd Casineb ar Sail Anabledd a Newid Rhyw
·         Ymwybyddiaeth o Adran 146 (Deddf Cyfiawnder Troseddol 2003)

Mae modd cael adnoddau a gwybodaeth am droseddau casineb a'r Gwasanaeth Cenedlaethol trwy ymweld â:
I archebu sesiwn cysylltwch â Gareth Cuerden yn uniongyrchol, neu cysylltwch â'ch Swyddog Cydlyniant Cymunedol Llywodraeth Leol i drefnu sesiwn ar eich rhan.
Argymhellwn na ddylai dros 18 o gynrychiolwyr fod yn bresennol yn y rhaglen ymwybyddiaeth oherwydd y gweithgareddau grŵp a gynhelir yn y sesiwn; ac ni ddylai llai nag 8 o gynrychiolwyr fod yn bresennol.
Darperir y sesiynau gan Staff neu Wirfoddolwyr Troseddau Casineb Cymorth i Ddioddefwyr sy'n gweithio yng Nghymru ac felly nid yw'r sesiynau wedi'u hachredu a gallai'r deilliannau dysgu amrywio yn ddibynnol ar brofiad gweithredol a chefndir yr hwylusydd.
Nid yw'r hwyluswyr o reidrwydd yn hyfforddwyr, ond maent wrthi'n gweithio yn y sector Troseddau Casineb, yn rhoi cymorth i ddioddefwyr troseddau a digwyddiadau casineb; ac mae gan bob un ddealltwriaeth fanwl o'r problemau a wynebir gan ddioddefwyr o ran troseddau a digwyddiadau casineb yng Nghymru.
