Stop Smoking. Resolutions App Launched to help Smokers Quit

Resolutions app launched to help smokers quit in 2014.
Make quitting smoking your new year’s resolution and get your friends to help you... this is the message from Stop Smoking Wales an Public Health Wales.  A new facebook app and social media campaign has been launched and encourages smokers who find it hard to quit to get their family and friends to pledge to support them on their journey to become smoke free.  The new app can be accessed via Stop Smoking Wales’ bilingual Facebook page www.facebook.com/stopsmokingwales www.facebook.com/dimsmygucymru.
Dr Angela Tinkler, Consultant in Public Health, who is leading the campaign for Public Health Wales said:  “We know how hard it is to give up smoking so we’ve developed a new app on Stop Smoking Wales’ Facebook page to get smokers’ friends and family to help them during their quit attempt. Users will be able to share the app on their wall to make their pledge public which will not only to help them stick to it but will also rally their friends to support them’’.
‘‘January is the time when most people try to give up but unfortunately a number fail for different reasons. We’ll be promoting the app throughout December and early January and we want to encourage people who have loved ones who smoke to spread the word. Employers are also promoting the campaign among their employees so that they can look forward to a richer and  healthier new year’’.
Gavin Jones, Senior Advisor for Stop Smoking Wales added: ‘‘Smoking is highly addictive and by getting support from your loved ones you will have a better chance of succeeding. We are also encouraging smokers to get in touch with their local Stop Smoking Wales advisor who will be able to support them as smokers who get support from Stop Smoking Wales are four times more likely to stop successfully.”
The smoking habit often runs in families and peer groups and although the majority of smokers say they want to stop the highly addictive nature of smoking makes it a challenge for many. Last year over 13,000 people contacted Stop Smoking Wales for help to quit. Contact them on 0800 085 2219

DATGANIAD I’R WASG -   Rhagfyr 2013.
Lansio ap Addunedau Newydd i helpu smygwyr i roi’r gorau iddi yn 2014.
Gwnewch adduned blwyddyn newydd i roi’r gorau i smygu a gofynnwch i’ch ffrindiau eich helpu... dyma’r neges gan Dim Smygu Cymru a Iechyd Cyhoeddus Cymru.  Mae ap facebook ac ymgyrch cyfryngau cymdeithasu newydd wedi cael ei lansio ac mae’n annog smygwyr sy’n ei chael hi’n anodd rhoi’r gorau iddi i wneud i’w teulu a’u ffrindiau addo eu cefnogi ar eu taith i fod yn ddi-fwg.  Gellir cael gafael ar yr ap newydd trwy dudalen ddwyieithog Dim Smygu Cymru ar facebook www.facebook.com/stopsmokingwales www.facebook.com/dimsmygucymru.
Dr Angela Tinkler, Ymgynghorydd mewn Iechyd Cyhoeddus, sy’n arwain yr ymgyrch.  “Gwyddom pa mor anodd yw rhoi’r gorau i smygu felly rydym wedi datblygu ap newydd ar dudalen Dim Smygu Cymru ar Facebook er mwyn cael ffrindiau a theulu smygwyr i’w helpu yn ystod eu hymgais i roi’r gorau iddi. Mis Ionawr yw’r amser pan fydd y rhan fwyaf o bobl yn ceisio rhoi’r gorau iddi ond yn anffodus mae llawer yn methu am resymau gwahanol.
‘‘Byddwn yn hyrwyddo’r ap ar draws Gogledd Cymru trwy gydol mis Rhagfyr a dechrau mis Ionawr a byddwn yn annog pobl ag anwyliaid sydd yn smygu i ledaenu’r gair.  Mae cyflogwyr ar draws y Gogledd hefyd yn hyrwyddo’r ymgyrch ymysg eu gweithwyr er mwyn iddynt allu edrych ymlaen at flwyddyn newydd gyfoethocach ac iachach’’.
Dywedodd Gavin Jones, o Dim Smygu Cymru, ‘‘Mae smygu yn gaethiwus iawn a thrwy gael cefnogaeth eich anwyliaid bydd gennych well siawns o lwyddo. Rydym hefyd yn annog smygwyr i gysylltu â’u cynghorydd Dim Smygu Cymru lleol fydd yn gallu eu cefnogi am fod smygwyr sy’n cael cefnogaeth gan Dim Smygu Cymru bedair gwaith yn fwy tebygol o lwyddo i roi’r gorau iddi’’.
Mae’r arfer o smygu yn aml iawn yn rhedeg mewn teuluoedd a grwpiau cymheiriaid ac er bod y rhan fwyaf o smygwyr yn dweud eu bod eisiau rhoi’r gorau iddi, mae natur gaethiwus iawn smygu yn golygu bod hyn yn her i rai. Llynedd fe wnaeth tua 13,000 o bobl yn cysylltu â Dim Smygu Cymru am gymorth i roi’r gorau iddi. Cysylltwch â nhw ar 0800 085 2219 . dimsmygu@wales.nhs.uk
