Breaking into News: 18-25 year olds potential broadcast journalists

SPREADING THE WORD ABOUT BREAKING INTO NEWS
It would be great if you could help us spread the word about this fantastic opportunity to the young people you work with, giving them a chance to get their voice heard. No experience is necessary, just enthusiasm and great ideas.
What it’s all about?
Media Trust and ITV News gave partnered to launch Breaking Into News to offer 18-25 year olds the chance to be mentored by experienced broadcast journalists from the ITV newsroom in London and around the UK in writing, reporting and production skills. The initiative is specifically designed to encourage diversity in broadcast journalism and to support young people from across the country who wouldn’t normally have this kind of opportunity.
Media Trust reaches out to a huge range of young people across the country that might not normally have the opportunity to gain industry insight and expertise. We use the media as a tool of engagement to change lives, giving people the chance to learn new skills, gain confidence and make positive life steps. The Breaking Into News initiative enables a diverse group of young people to       talk about the things that matter to them and get their voices heard.
Breaking Into News is for 18-25 year olds across England and Wales. The closing date for all entries is Friday 21st February at midday.  Nine finalists will be selected (one from each ITV News region) and given the opportunity to work with mentors to develop their ideas and turn them into a news report for their local ITV newsroom with one lucky finalist presented with an iPad and given the opportunity to spend the day with the team producing the ITV News at Ten.
What's in it for the young people?
This is an opportunity for young people to have their say about something that matters to them and their local community and potentially have it shown on television.
The goal is for each finalist to produce the best news report that they can. They will be supported by an expert broadcast journalist who will provide guidance, encourage them to develop their ideas, give constructive and professional feedback and listen.
Each finalist will be supported with a minimum of three mentoring sessions between 10th March and 31st March 2014 based at their regional newsroom.
What do they have to do?
Young people must submit a completed entry using the Application Form available at "http://www.mediatrust.org/breakingintonews" before the closing date of midday 21st February 2014.
If successful all Finalists must be available to attend the training day on 7th March 2014 at ITV News’s network newsroom in London (200 Gray's Inn Road London WC1X 8XZ) and a minimum of three mentoring sessions between 10th March and 31stMarch 2014 based at their regional newsroom. Entrants must also be available to pitch their final report on 2nd or 3rd April 2014 in London. Full Terms & Conditions are available at "http://www.mediatrust.org/breakingintonews"
