Supporting Training & Recognition of Skills for Carers

The STARS(Supporting Training and Recognition of Skills) is a four-year project that aims to help carers or former carers take advantage of all the opportunities available to improve their quality of life. Support for Training And Recognition of Skills. The term carer doesn’t refer to paid carers but those who have given up their time to support someone else in need. Maybe a partner, a relative, a friend or a neighbour.  STARS is able to fund extra respite care to allow carers to take part.

By offering individually tailored learning plans, support and one to one contact, STARS has helped many people improve their life skills and/or get back into learning, education, volunteering and work. All our activities are delivered in convenient, informal venues and we are able to offer assistance with travel cost and other incidental expenditure if this is a barrier to participation. We can work with groups or individuals.
We can deliver classes to suit individuals’ need such as Basic IT, Digital Story Telling, Confidence Building etc and can support people onto courses/training provided by other providers. We will match courses and provision to suit every individual and are able to support already existing groups. We encourage participants to put forward new ideas about training/courses. If you have an idea run it passed us and we’ll consider it.
To be eligible the participant must:
•           be over 16 years of age
•           be a carer or former carer (at any time in their lives)
•           not be currently in work or education
•           not engaged on the Work Programme
The project is delivered under contract to the BIG Lottery Fund under its Life Skills Programme and is co-funded by the European Social Fund.
